Ive been running our backline through my head since Norman has signed and for the life of me cant seem to get a balance. Its a weird signing for this year although i am sure its looking at the future for when Widdop leaves at the end of the year.
So here we are with 3 halves worth around 1 Mill each for 2019 lol.
To me balance is everything and the best balance i cant come up with is....
1. Widdop
2. Lomax
3, Aitken
4. Lafai
5. Pereira/Pearson
6. Norman
7. Hunt
14. Dufty
Lomax is a bigger body and i know he is a centre but we do need a bigger body out there for defence and kick returns and can get some more first grade experience while he waits for our current centres contracts to expire.
I am not that big of a fan of Pereira's skill set although he gives his all i just dont think he has any X factor but he is pretty good with kick returns and will get better in the air, But is that enough? I would like to see Pearson step up and with his speed can definitely have that X factor.
I think Mcwhateva will go with Aitken and Lafai for sure till his hand is forced.
Having Hunt, Widdop and now Norman in the side gives us some crazy options when you think about it but throws out the balance. Maybe it will be a masterstroke but also maybe there's too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. Time will tell.
All that said i do also like nonetime111's back 7 for the pure attcking X factor.
Not trying to be picky but we dont have three halves each on a million a year for 2019. Hunt and Widdop are under a million and Norman is on $500K. In fact Norman averages out over the three years to $700K per year, this is an absolute bargain.
We wanted speed and Pearson and Ravalawa have been recruited, they are fast and physical with good size. They were one step below some of the very best wingers in the game and couldn't get a run because of this. They are young, seem like the sort of players we should be targeting.
We picked up two young props with big wraps, Timms and Blacker to go with Lawrie and Kerr. They have size and are just getting to the stage where they may be ready for some first grade experience. Even if we only get one of them to develop and move the others on and replace them accordingly, we will have done well.
We have a couple of depth signings/resignings in Latimore (and wasnt it lucky we had him this year), Allgood and Maranta.
We have some juniors who look promising including Robson, Sailor, Lovodua and Marsters.
We have maintained a forward pack which sits somewhere in the top four in the comp. It looks like we are trying to strengthen the fullback position. I think recruitment have done pretty well, now lets wait and see what the coach does with it.
