In all fairness, the blame should really lay at the feet of Mary. His unwillingness to learn from previous years and stubbornly repeat actions that have failed, is the major reason for our failure.
Fatigue in our pack caused our halves who were so dominant in the first half of the season to falter under the circumstance where there was no platform set and no room to move. When fatigue set in, our forwards began to be dominated by the opposition and so, our halves and backline had no answer.
All could have been avoided with a clever rotation policy, appropriate rest for our SOO participants and bench management that mitigated exhaustion and facilitated first grade experience for our fringe forwards. Mary's idea of giving our already over-worked backrowers the extra duty of covering for the middle defence and attack proved to be a leap too far when it came to fatigue.
With his contract on the line this season, let's hope that Mary and his coaching staff have learnt from their mistakes and devise a more suitable program for the 2019 season.
