What's the difference; our current forwards (with the exception of Ellis & Galloway) pretty much get smashed every week anyway right? Heighno get's nailed. Gibbs falls once he hits the line. Payten gets driven backwards. Everyone is calling for Fulton to be reinstated but he too gets driven backwards with ease.
Maybe if we threw a young meathead in there that wants to prove himself and brings a bit of passion we might develop a decent forward pack for the future.
Fifita looks like a hard nut. If he ruins his career from what will inevitably be a tough initiation then he shouldn't be an NRL front rower.
Sometimes you just need to step outside the square…. unfortunately given the past performance and selection of the Tigers forwards that time has come.
Come back when you get a fkn clue, Gibbs along with Tuiaki was the only WTs player at the back end of the season to consistently break 100m per game

No...it will be a gross instance of negligence on behalf of a coach throwing him in too early if hes not ready

Sheens is one of the best at bringing kids thru, he f**ks up majorly in many areas but excels in development

Sounds like someone’s getting a bit defensive? Don’t let this forum get to you too much innsaneink…
On Gibbs, I think you’re losing sight of the bigger picture. Fair call Gibbs strung together some good games towards the end of last season but we all know he is not the front row enforcer we need. Just can’t back it up physically. Lacks a bone crunching hit in defence. Perhaps that’s why he gives away heaps of penalties; he gets frustrated because he can’t physically match it with the NRL front rowers. That's the point I'm trying to make about Gibbs. I don’t care if he played well at the end of last season – there are clearly better front row prospects in the squad.
I appreciate that Gibbs has good line speed and is very fit for a forward. If he continues to make more meters, and if he finally gets some consistency under his belt then why not play him in the second row?
Everyone seems to be scared of throwing in young forwards early. Was Gibbs ‘ready’ for the big time when thrown in as a 20 year old in 2003? Based on his performances since then, clearly not. But he hasn’t ruined his career through injury as result of being thrown in early. Whether Fifita gets injured early is up to the ‘Footy Gods’. Arguably, Galloway was also thrown in early not for his ability but just for his sheer size - he's doing well for himself now right? Whatever happens, Fifita is definitely a class above and looks to be a 'real' front rower. Surely it’s worth the risk of blooding him next year. Fair enough there is a risk of him getting injured but he looks like he could hold his own – either way he definitely has a lot more going for himself than what Gibbs (and possibly even Galloway) did when he debuted.

You clearly dont appreciate the step up from reserve grade to first grade, let alone flegg to 1sts

Corey Payne would be lucky to get a spot at the dogs. Only if there are injuries he will get a fill in position. Could be a bad career move.

The Tigers had a bad couple of years with this guy and I can see that you are clearing out the dead wood. The Tigers are on the way up in my eyes.

My only hope is that Corey Payne continues his bad form for the Dogs.

He will probably prove me wrong and have a blinder of a season, as the dogs seem to get the best out of no hopers.
If you are wondering I am a Dragons fan.

For once we agree. Though it has taken someone INCREDIBLY stupid to unite us. Talk of promoting a 20's front rower is just as useful as talk of a stand out 6's prop.

I can't believe anyone would actually turn down one of the only 2 front rowers from last year because he isn't an enforcer.

1. There are no enforcers his age. Perhaps, besides Burgess who is a freak. Gibbs tried it and was shown up by a niff nuff who hit his straps in his late 20s.

2. He won't be a good thing until HE is in his late 20's. Just like 99% of props. As it is, he's already doing 100+ metres a game, something we cried for in the dark days. We all know he could get 1000x better and I certainly wouldn't turn a prop of that calibre down.

3. His defence is brilliant. No one bothers to notice his ruck defence, but i think he's incredible.

I think one of the reasons the Bulldogs signed Payne was because of all the good charity work he does off the field and he doesn't get himself in trouble. The Bulldogs have had alot of bad influences and trouble makers in the recent past and they are trying to change their culture and image around which I believe they are starting to do. They are getting rid of bad influences like $BW, Mason, Myles and are signing well behaved players like Noddy and Payne. Also I don't think they would be paying him all that much and he isn't bad for depth.
