At this rate, England will tear us a new asshole. At their best, the Pakis could even test us.

I don't think so.
The quality in most other teams isn't there.
I'm still not convinced by England, but I do think India & Sth Africa have passed us.
The fact that we haven't been able to get the Sth African's last 3 wickets today shows how far we have slipped.
I personally think Inida and Sth Africa are a long way ahead of us.

If Sri Lankan selectors pick a couple of the gun young bats, like South Africa has done with Duminy. To support Sangakkara and Jayawardene they could push for top 2(Currently 4th).

Murali and Mendis will threaten to take 20 wickets every time. Just need the batting to hold up.

Beat India in the last test series 2-1

We will most likely go to 3rd in the rankings but that is about as low as we will go IMO. If we can unearth some gun bowlers in the next year or two we will be back up top quick smart..

Agreed

Id go even further mate, and say they have the potential to be number 1 over the next 2-3 years

As a Sri Lankan, Number 1 in the world will be great. But its a long way off, stability off the field is at an all time low at the moment. CEO just got sacked along with numerous others.

The selectors need to be more positive when picking youngsters. Why Mendis didn't tour Australia last summer is beyond me. He should have been here for both tests and the ODI series with India and Australia.

As i said before, Sangakkara and Jayawardene won't perform every test. Samaraweera has the 3rd highest average in SL history and is a very solid number 5. Warnapura has started his Test career pretty well. However, there is still room for more consistency and improvement in the batting.

Our domestic depth will ensure we will always be there and there abouts.

Third behind the ICC and Seffers seems about right.

I always knew this would happen. The Australian side just had too many older players in it over the last 5 or so years. First Justin Langer retired, then McGrath, Warne & Gilchrist all followed. Damien Martyn also jumped the shark before giving it away. Hayden will be next, and then Ponting will be dropped for being a useless captain. They should of eased a few younger players into the side in anticipation of their stars retiring.
