just out of curiosity, if parra beat the dragons, and the tigz give the dogs a touch up, its not inconveivable to think that the eels will be the new prem favourites (currently drags and dogs $5, eels $6), and assumming manly and broncos win, will be starting the semis from 7th
nothing like this will ever have happened...guess it would really highlight the openness of the competition this year!!

I doubt they'd install Parra as favourites, finishing 7th means a single loss sees them out of the race. Week one wins for 1st and 2nd see them survive, which is why they'd be shorter odds.

If the above set of circumstances do happen, I would think the Titans would come closer rather than the Eels being installed favourites, as the Titans would benefit most from the above.

You're assuming too much. The Broncos won't win so this discussion is moot.

Anyways Tim is onto something, Titans and/or Bulldogs will still be above Parra if they finish 7th. The sudden death factor puts a fair bit into it.

Odds wise, 1 & 2 should always be shorter odds than the rest of the field because they (in theory) have one less game to play to get to a GF

Like Timmah said, the fact that the Eels will face sudden death right from the outset will detract bookies from installing them as favourites.

I think the Bulldogs will get favouritism. But Parra's odds will increase sharply if they can knock over a top two opponent in the first week.

in theory that is correct...however if my predicitions come to fruition, week 1 semis is dragons vs eels again, with dragons on a 4 game losing streak...this year is different because of the sheer amount of money that the bookies stand to lose on parra, hence their price is alot lower then it should be....parra would be in the top 2 favs, titans wouldnt firm because they would have lost at brookvale and confirmed that they cannot play in sydney
tigers may have cast some doubts on the dogs ability to win without kimmorley...wouldnt surprise to see manly and melb shoot to the top depending on scoreline!!!

I am not sure who will play in the GF, but I know Parra won't be there.

got a crystal ball do ya? just dont come back in 3 weeks and say i told you so, because your not exactly making an out there prediction...will need to win 11 straight just to make it!!! rule some1 like the dogs out, then i might give you some credit if it comes true...

and timmah, u know that bookies dont buy into the media beat up, they go on facts....dogs won 3 without noddy this year!!

It has nothing to do with how they see it. Favourtism is decided by the punters and where they wage the weight of their money. If most money is put on Parra to win the comp then they'll be faves regardless of what the bookies think.

I doubt very much that the Tits will be faves because i can't see the punters putting a great deal of money on them. I've just had a look at 3 markets and the Tits don't get near Parra in the betting even though one team will finish 3rd and the other who knows where.

Saying Parra wont make the GF is exacly that, a prediction.

has it occured to anyone how hilarious it would be if the Eels won the premiership after dumping Finch mid season?
