Hey mate,
Norths had three draws (two against West). The way it works is Group secretaries nominate a club from their Group for the Cup. In theory they should nominate the premiers but I guess that doesn't have to be the case. Wellington would have a strong case but losing the GF puts them out of the running. Teams have won the Cup despite not the premiership though. Hillston will probably win it based on the "rules" they use to find the winner but I wouldn't assume anything when the CRL's involved.

North Tamworth were undefeated but had 2 draws from memory. Wellington were an absolute shoe-in to win but lost the Grand Final to Cobar (their only loss of the year). Guyra would have also gone close but for their 2 point loss in the first game of the year in Group 19 (only loss of the year as well).

I heard rumours this season of a competition next year to find the best CRL side.

Are there any further developments with this? Confirmed or denied?

Guyra blow it every year. They always start badly because they don't prepare as well as they could. They would have won it three years ago but for a one point loss. They won every other game that year. What's worse their only loss this year was their first game of the season (in the second week) because Narwan forfeited their first game to them and then they copped a terrible pasting from the ref against Inverell and still only lost 34-30. I bet thet do something similar next year.

I spoke to Damian Kenniff about five minutes ago. He is moving from Wagga to Tamworth as the ARL Development office for that area early December.
Champion bloke who was much loved in the Riverina. Lucky Tamworth. Not only does he know his job, he is VERY good at it.
One of the games nice guys. Damo, a half back, coached Wagga Kangaroos in Group 9 for the past two seasons...
Played with the Gold Coast team when it was last in the NRL..Former Commonwealth Bank Cup Player of the Year, toured England with the 1988 Junior Kangaroos..

From Narrabri I believe, a town that could do with his help.

Yeah Damian told me he is a Narrabri boy (and his wife a Narrabri girl). He is VERY good at his job. Good on him   and so is Rick Keast, the CRL development officer for Riverina, for that matter.

Clayton Cup decision tomorrow. CRL management committee meeting in Newcastle before the Great Britain game to make it official. Should be decided by 4pm.

Hillston got the Clayton Cup. But the CRL were reluctant to give it to them. It might be the catalyst for G17 losing its Group status.

So be it....It was the only decision it could have made given the criteria the Cup is awarded under.
You can't change rules to suit events. With Hay Magpies to move to Group 20...Group 17 will be unviable anyway. What the CRL does with the remaining Clubs will be interesting.

The move of Hay Magpies into Group 20 was voted on at the Group 20 AGM last Sunday..The vote was 18-5 with West Wyalong and Waratahs voting against it..God only knows why? The Magpies will not take any of their players, that is for sure.
The move is subject to ratification by the CRL Boundaries committee. Surprisingly, everything has been quiet on that front........despite a meeting being held a couple of weeks ago..

West Wyalong was very disappointed that it was not allowed to move into Group 9. Slated Group 20 for allowing the Magpies in.
I would have thought the case of the Malleemen to move to Group 9 would be strengthened by the inclusion of Hay Magpies into Group 20, rather than West Wyalong going and reducing the competition to just seven Clubs.
It worries me the way some administrators think!!!!!
