Here's the barrier draw for the Cox Plate. Whobe is certainly the the horse to beat but i love backing against the fave and took Heart of dreams early last week at $9.50. I'm happy with given he drew well in 3 and has firmed considerably after the draw. Should be a cracker race, i love the Cup but the Cox Plate is my favorite of all races.

1. El Segundo L Nolen (13) 59

2. Zipping S Arnold (2) 59

3. Vision And Power H Bowman (4) 59

4. Nom Du Jeu M Rodd (5) 59

5. Scenic Shot S Scriven (6) 59

6. Black Piranha T Angland (8) 59

7. Sir Slick Ms M Payne (11) 59

8. Road To Rock G Schofield (1) 59

9. Speed Gifted D Dunn (12) 59

10. Whobegotyou D Oliver (10) 57.5

11. Heart Of Dreams C Newitt (3) 57.5

12. Rock Kingdom N Rawiller (9) 57.5

13. Manhattan Rain C Williams (14) 49.5

14. So You Think G Boss (7) 49.5

Cox Plate is my fave too, along with the Caulfield Cup. Whobegotyou - well, it's clearly his race to lose imo. I expect him to win and win pretty well.

However, I'm backing Black Piranha home all the way - I think it started around 26s and is in to 15s. It's my little hope :)

Still shattered Big Mal is not going around, got him at 15's but thats racing. Whobe is definately the one to beat and grows a leg around the Valley, Heart of dreams was definately unlucky last start Ollie took Newitts lunch money not sure that will happen again. And Bart is running So You Think, he didn't have a hope after the way the race was run last start gotta respect him. Still i'll make my mind up later in the week.

No Idea who I'm going to back yet. Probably wont til I get my tips. Though if Viewed runs in the Melbourne Cup I'll be backing him.

Zipping at odds, if there is enough pace on up front. (Ran 2nd last year, when Maldivian walked it in front.)

What I'd like is one that's a dead cert but has odds of $101

Where's George Freeman when ya' need him

Agree keen on Zipping. Last run was just as good as Viewed's in the Turnbull. Ian G, what do you mean by if Viewed runs in the Cup? Of course it is barrign injury.

Well let's just say some might remember before the 2005 Melbourne Cup there was speculation that Makybe Diva would be scratched. Well the rest is history now.

Some how managed to get the tri for the geelong cup yesterday. Boosts the coffers for saturday.

my prelim thoughts on the trifecta are:

1st - Whobegotyou, Heart Of Dreams, So You Think,
2nd & 3rd - all above plus El Segundo, Zipping, Manhattan Rain, Rock Kingdom and Speed Gifted.

The horse was NEVER going to be scratched. It was just a load of crap to try and get the track softer. Im sure Bart would want the track soft as well but he won't scratch the horse if its not

Whobe continues to get the staggers and is out to $3 in most markets with the best i can find $3.10 at Sportsbet. If i wanted i'd be holding off because i reckon they'll lay him even futher. Heart of Dreams keeps on firming and is now into $5.50 pretty much everywhere, wouldn't surprise me to see him come in even more by race time. I still think he's the horse to beat though.

I'm even happier now with my $9.50 but that means sweet FA if he doesn't win, still has to pass the post first. Outside those 2 there's plenty of value to be had, i'm not sure who but i might have a bit of a saver on something else when i'm on track. I rarely back 2 horses in the one race but the rest of the field is $10+ and the Plate has a habit of throwing up every now and then.

I reckon Waterhouse is going to use her other starter to set the race up for Manhattan Rain. Expect it to be gifted a super run by its stablemate, whether it is used to force the pace or simply to provide a lead in. Either way, Manhattan Rain will be right in there at the finish.

Cox Plate will be my soul focus on punting this weekend. Had a look at the form guide and the nag I've been following in Sydney isn't running again this weekend.

Looks like Sir Slick may be scratched tomorrow. This will leave little or no speed in the race. Could be the same type of race as last years.

Also Zipping may be ridden closer to the speed than normal.

I don't mind the look of Road To Rock at odds myself, nicely drawn and decent form on the board.

Sir Slick had no place being in the field anyway, he wouldn't have beat the Ambulance home. A sit and sprint race my favour Whobe who i think is a bit suss at a strong 2000 anyway. If one of the 3 year olds can be up near the front woth only 49kgs on theire backs they may do a Savabeel.

Tough race to pick the winner. Will probably stick with Whobe if he gets out to $3.50+

Besides that, one of the best races of the spring is on the same day with the Moir.

Win SCHWEPPES STAKES

Select the winner.
No. Description Win Place
63325 LUCKY SECRET $3.20 $1.48
63321 APACHE CAT $3.70 $1.60
63327 MIC MAC $7.50 $2.44
63329 ORTENSIA $7.50 $2.44
63323 DUPORTH $8.50 $2.66
63324 LIGHT FANTASTIC $8.50 $2.66
63322 DANLEIGH $10.00 $3.00
63328 BANK ROBBER $10.00 $3.00
63326 FALAISE $101.00 $23.22

Wouldve been nice to see All Silent accept, but still an extrememly hot race. Danleigh is way over the odds and Ortensia is a favourite of mine, so thats where my money will be going at this stage.
