Credit and humble pie to Cayless

I along with others have bashed Nathan Cayless since the start of the season.

I'm prepared to eat humble pie, give credit where credit is due and all those other cliched sayings.

I know one good game does not make a season, but Cayless was outstanding yesterday.

I hope he can keep it up and i will be more than happy to have a huge slice of humble pie at the end of season and give credit where credit is due.

Bring on the Wests next week.

GO PARRA.

Caylo was great yesterday, offloading and passing before the line. Lets hope he can keep it up because it was great to see.

Cayless has always been a good player when he looks to offload, he hasn't been looking to offload since BS was our coach, it seems Hagan coached him to just tuck the ball under the arm and run straight.
He is a way better player when he looks for off loads. How many tries were set up back in 2001, 2002 when Cayless offloads to Hodgson?

Cayless showed another dimention to his game yesterday.
He needs to contine offloading in tackles and creating second phase plays.
Little suttle things like this is how we turned it around. It was obvious in our game plan that we'd occasionally attack the blind side and try and offload where possible.
Good tactics.

I agree, he just needs to be used the same way and continue the form, he definitely played to his worth yesterday.

That's why I think he should be a 2nd rower.

We need a prop to take over his spot to do the hard stuff and he can play 2nd rower for maybe close to 80mins without the exhaustion for getting smashed by 3-4 grunts on every hitup.

he just hasn't got the agility, game time and work right to compete with other backrowers.

I disagree, Cayless is probably just as agile and skillfull has hindmarsh if not more. Cayless' massive problem is that he has always been a smaller prop, he does not have the same physical presences as someone like Asotasi or Price and he has had to rely on him passing game before and after the line to become dangerous. I have seen Cayless throw cut out passes and put kicks in, he is skillfull and has good vision for a front rower.

Cayless also normally makes about 35 tackles and 15 hitups up front in about 55 min, if he ran the ball a little wider and played the same minutes he would be avg better meter and tackles then guys like Gulauvo and Lowrie (so it is only an improvement on what we have). Guys like Payton, Waterhouse and Douglous have moved from the forwards to the backrow with sucess, Caylo looked good in parts when he moved their (we just lacked front rowers at the time) and if we pick up Poore we can afford to move him there IMO.

will be interesting to see what we do with caylo if we sign poore! i just think the platform that poore and fui could lay in the opening 20 would be epic!

I still believe his backrow days are well and truely over.

if we sign Poore, then I can only imagine it means Caylo will be leaving - cos thats the only way I can see us having the money .... I reckon getting Poore is one of these situations where it can happen if Caylo can get a gig in the UK and Caylo will only be allowed to take a gig in the UK if we sign a replacement

I disagree. His passing game is more effective when he is taking it first off the ruck. This leaves both the half and five-eighth available to receive (based on his current single pass) and allows our second rowers to be recipients of any additional play.

It also gives him the option of tucking it under his arm and hitting it up, which of course then comes with a possible offload. As we all know, the tighter you are the more you attract and this is the beauty of a ball playing front rower.

HJ,

I have seen Caylo pop passes ala Creigh.

That is 1 handers around the corner like.

As a prop, he will always be confronted by big boppas in the middle.

A little wider, he might be able to stick his body through and throw a pass around the corner to a flying Hayne or Inu.

That's not to say he can't pass before the line too!

I recall one game where we were well down and Caylo was passing the ball will nilly. He can definitely get the ball away, it's just that there was no support.

My main point is that Caylo's asset is this ability to pass the ball.

What's the point of him taking the first hitup or the return run from a kick off? He is not that good at that and he is not going to pass the ball on the first hitup right?

Let a grunt do that. (Prob is we are short of them)

Then Caylo can be the ball playing forward that we know he can be. The other point is that he can stay on the field longer.

Best game from Nathan since the World Cup final. He ran hard, tackled hard and was looking to off load the ball. He was certainly helped by the fact that there were players in motion around him. They all looked so positive.
Like the world financial crisis, maybe Parramatta had hit rock bottom and are now on the way up again.
Congratulations Nathan. The standard has been set. Same again please.

i think that previously cayless in the second row hasnt worked is because there hasnt been good front rowers to replace him.
