Rubbish. That article states the rules that were broken.

:-({|= You're the best, you're so easily riled  You compare even to the most easily riled, Iafeta! Please, do give us your "un-Australianised" opinion of Steve Waugh and Michael Bevan at the '99 World Cup, SK Warne on numerous occassions, ME Waugh having a punt or two..

Now, to the MUCH more important job at hand, picking what now appears to be a Rest of the World v Asia team to fundraise something incredibly important.

Anyword if there will be a special kit worn by each team? if these were auctioned off after the match I can only imagine they would add a significent ammount to the fundraiser.

If they can get MCG capacity which is...about 80,000 at the moment I think, that'd be a huge influx of cash from the cricket community. Here's some more on it:

»World stars could play MCG relief cricket match

Frantic negotiations were taking place across the cricket world last night in a bid to stage a Rest of the World match in Australia next month for tsunami victims.

In one of the most ambitious short-term projects in recent cricket history, the game's players have approached the International Cricket Council asking to play a one-day game, probably in Melbourne, within a fortnight.

Federation of International Cricketers chief executive Tim May sent out a proposal to all world player associations several days ago asking whether they would support a game likely to be held on January 11 or 12.

An overwhelmingly positive response prompted May to rush the proposal to Cricket Australia yesterday.

CA gave instant support and contacted the International Cricket Council last night as urgent attempts were made to gain approval from the game's governing body.

Rarely have cricket's lines of communications moved as swiftly.

The fate of the one-day game, which has the potential to raise millions of dollars for tsunami victims, should be known today with May hopeful of gaining ICC approval.

"The only reason why it would not get up would be if there was too much to do but I don't think that is an excuse," May said.

"It took only two minutes for the devastation to occur. It should not be too much trouble to organise a cricket match in 12 days."

The only nations ruled out of providing players for the match were England and South Africa who are contesting a five Test series in South Africa.

It has not been decided what format the match would take.

One suggestion was Australia versus a Rest of the World side and it was also mooted that an Anzac side featuring Australia and New Zealand players could take on the best players from other nations.

Organisers are keen to maximise the game's commercial appeal by making the match as glamorous and competitive as possible.

If the match is endorsed by the ICC some of the game's leading players, including Indian Sachin Tendulkar, could be on their way to Australia to play alongside West Indian great Brian Lara and New Zealand's Chris Cairns.

Three teams – Australia, Pakistan and the West Indies – will already be in Australia which would help the player pool.

New Zealand had no problem agreeing to the request after its home series against Sri Lanka was cancelled for compassionate reasons so the Sri Lankan players could return home. Sri Lanka was one of the worst hit nations with more than 23,000 dead.

Indian players were also keen to help after more than 13,000 lives were lost.

"But the Sri Lankan players told us that if the match was approved they would be here in a heartbeat," May said.

Sri Lankan spin bowling great Muthiah Muralidaran, who left the southern coastal city of Galle 30 minutes before it was swamped by tidal waves, might also be on the invitation list despite the fact he has recently recovered from shoulder surgery.

The Galle Cricket Ground where the Australians played a Test in March was so heavily hit by the waves that only the grandstand roof was visible.

Thats a good idea. Another idea would be for Nein to quit selling tacky merchandise for once and put something out with merit, not some brush stroke bush painting by some yobo from Ayers Rock like they did two or three years ago. All the money could go to the relief funds.

This just announced-

Cricketers pitch in for tsunami victims

ICC announces two-match fund-raising series

Cricinfo staff

January 1, 2005

The world's top cricketers will participate in a two-match one-day series to be played in Australia and Asia to raise funds to support the victims of the tsumani disaster that has devastated thousands of lives in a multitude of countries across the Indian ocean.

The matches will be played between an ICC XI and an Asian XI, with the first game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on January 10. The second one-dayer will be played some time in February or March, at a venue which will be decided later by the Asian Cricket Council, the ICC announced today.

The ICC XI, to be picked by Richard Hadlee, the former New Zealand allrounder and Steve Waugh, the former Australian captain, will be announced on Sunday and is expected to include players from Australia, New Zealand and West Indies. The Asian XI, consisting of players from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, will be announced on Monday.

Channel 9, the Australian broadcaster, has already committed to televising the first match live in Australia while negotiations are on with international broadcasters for the rights for the first match in the overseas market.

Ehsan Mani, the ICC president, said that the enormous goodwill across the cricket playing world had made the matches possible at such short notice. "Like the rest of the world, the international cricket community is shocked at the scale of the devastation caused by this disaster."

Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of the Asian Cricket Council, believed that these matches would be able to generate millions of dollars to be used to help rebuild people's lives. These matches are in addition to several other fundraising initiatives already undertaken by the cricket community across the world. These include £120,000 donated by the Indian board, Aus$34,000 donated jointly by the Australian Test team and Cricket Australia, and £20,000 from the England team and its players association. The Indian team will also donate their payments from one ODI match to the Indian Prime Minister's Relief Fund, while the Bangladesh Cricket Board has pledged the gate receipts from its upcoming series against Zimbabwe, estimated at $10,000, to relief efforts.

Cricket: Fleming's shenanigans secure finals spot

04.02.2002

By RICHARD BOOCK in Melbourne

New Zealand claimed a place in the tri-series cricket finals last night after South Africa denied Australia a crucial bonus point in their game in Perth.

Stephen Fleming's team had set up their finals prospects by deliberately conceding a bonus point to the South Africans when the two sides met on Friday.

But Australia failed in a tense game last night to keep South Africa from pushing past the 226-run mark, which meant the home team - even though they won the game - could not add a bonus point to their tally.

The result meant New Zealand and Australia ended the round-robin each with 17 points.

New Zealand earned their spot in the best-of-three finals because they had the better win-loss record (3-1) against Australia in the series.

The first of the finals, on Wednesday, is in Melbourne. The other games are in Sydney, on Friday and, if needed, Sunday.

Fleming flouted one of the most serious laws in cricket last Friday but seems set to escape scot-free.

Not only was the New Zealand captain's order to lose the game against South Africa a flagrant breach of the opening principle of the International Cricket Council's Code of Conduct, it also appeared to fly in the face of a section which deals with corruption.

Part C, section 10 of the code recommends a life ban for any player or team official who, among other things, "was a party to contriving or attempting to contrive the result of any match".

Fleming said afterwards that he deliberately conceded a bonus point to the South Africans in order to improve his team's chances of qualifying for the finals.

"Believe me, it was our last resort ... "

But in concentrating on the bonus point he had first to decide to throw the match completely.

Comparisons have been made with Australia's go-slow at Manchester in the 1999 World Cup, but the reality is that Steve Waugh's actions were not nearly as serious.

At the World Cup, Australia were comfortably beating the West Indies and although they decided to play defensively at the end, they still won, and therefore did little wrong.

Fleming's actions effectively predetermined the result of a match before it had taken its course, and encouraged his team-mates to underperform.

The code of conduct also recommends a life ban for any player who induces or encourages any other player not to perform on his merits.

The other rule which Fleming appeared to contravene was the opening clause of the code, which reminds captains that they are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the spirit of the game, as well as the laws.

But ICC chairman Malcolm Gray said yesterday that it was unlikely there would be any serious repercussions for Fleming, as the tri-series format had left him in an invidious position.

Exactly and in my view that was the night that NZ Lost the right to bitch about the underarm saga.

Yeah i know i read the article but why is everyone naming Anzac teams?
If England and South Africa weren't in the middle of a test it would basically be a World XI.
