A SERIES of full-speed beach sprints was enough to convince Melbourne Storm halfback Cooper Cronk to make an early return for the injury-hit club tonight.

Cronk was due back next weekend but his return was fast-tracked after star five-eighth Greg Inglis was ruled out for a fortnight at least with a knee injury.Astonishingly, Cronk has missed just one game despite suffering ankle ligament damage against North Queensland in Round 14 that club medicos feared would sideline him for two months.

"I got the best case and it comes down to how hard you're prepared to work to get your body back into shape," he said.Cronk, 23, said running on Terrigal Beach convinced him he was ready to return."We didn't really think about it until we got up here (on Thursday) and realised the sand was at the front door," he said."I had a bit of a run and pulled up quite good and trained this afternoon, so it should be OK.

"It comes down to how I pull up (today) but, yeah, I'd like to play. It's not much fun sitting on the sidelines watching the boys run around. You want to be a part of it," Cronk said. He will play halfback against South Sydney tonight at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford.

Would be good to have Cronk back for tonight's game...it would juts add a bit of structure to the backline and take pressure off Smithy.

Having said that, I don't think they should rush him back if there is a risk of him getting the injury again...

Is there any need to rush him back? I mean really, we are sitting pretty sweet at the top of the table here. One more week, at least.
