Well you thought wrong. They are are one trick pony down there. AFL or nothing. Most of them are so ignorant they don't even know the difference between the two rugbys.

As a Wests Tigers fan id just like to say our crowds have been shite all year.In fact it shows the commitment off some supporters that when times get tough people lose interest.Well in my opinion its all part of the rollercoaster ride that is following ur team. And its those 6 or 7 thousand who show up week in week out that are the true supporters of the club.

the bulldogs figure looks jipped they have an average home crowd of 21,117, i remember plenty of games this year whent he dogs would only get around the 10k mark, surely those 2 highly promoted games at telstra couldnt of bumped their total up that much.

Do clubs waterdown their crowd figures?

I thought there was way more people at the SFS for the Roosters and at Suncorp for the Broncos than stated.

So did the Roosters when they got caught cheating

Stupid double post... I was afraid this would happen when it said "you can not post again so quickly" when I hadn't posted anything for a while....

Found some interesting stats from last year.... It's hard to find current TV rating stats that you can get for free :(

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/07/19/1026898917598.html said:
In Sydney, Channel 9's coverage of the league Test - telecast an hour after kick-off in the city - averaged 688,360 viewers (No1 for the week), while Channel 7's live telecast from Wellington of the Bledisloe averaged 433,598 (21st for the week).

In Brisbane, the Great Britain Test averaged 470,934 viewers, No1 for the week, while the union averaged 307,217, 13th for the week.

Bledisloe Cup matches are rugby's holy grail, whereas decades of one-sided league Test matches have dimmed interest.

The Wallabies versus France union Test in Melbourne last month was outrated in Sydney by an NRL club game - the Bulldogs versus Parramatta.

A comparison of free-to-air figures for NRL games and Super12 matches demonstrates that for every 12 viewers watching a league game, only one watches union.

The top-rating NRL match to round 14 was the Broncos versus Knights in round seven with Nine drawing an audience of 1.668 million. The Super 12's most popular match was the Waratahs versus Brumbies in round nine, which drew 131,000 on Seven. It was not shown until midnight.

Union followers protest that Super 12 matches are typically shown near midnight on Saturdays, while league games are telecast on an hour's delay.

Pay-TV figures reflect the same difference in popularity. NRL games on Fox average 636,154 viewers, whereas Super 12 games average 181,429 viewers.

While league is increasingly becoming a TV sport, union's boast that its crowd figures dwarf the NRL also does not stand up.

A comparison of crowd figures of top NRL and Super 12 matches shows that the 13-a-side code is only slightly behind.

The Waratahs versus Brumbies round-nine match drew Super 12's biggest crowd in Australia - a capacity 41,645 at Aussie Stadium, just ahead of the 37,183 who attended the NRL's most popular match - a round-three game between the Bulldogs and the Dragons.

The average attendance of the top 18 games in both codes is 25,877 in Super 12 compared with 22,790 in the NRL.

Well, the Broncos home season is over, and they've managed their best crowd figures in some time. The averages are as follows:

Season - 24332
ANZ (4 games) - 16415
Suncorp (8 games) - 28275

At first look the crowds at Suncorp have been a bit disappointing, but further analysis reveals some interesting facts. The Broncos have long argued that they draw poorly on Saturdays, and this is reflected in the three games played, at Suncorp, on Saturday nights, with an average of 19984. However, for the four Friday night games and one Sunday game, they averaged 33250. Considering that State of Origin put a large dent in the crowd figures for the matches against the Roosters and, even more so, the Bulldogs, I think it's fair to assume that the club would have averaged in excess of 35000 for their Friday/Sunday matches if Origin was not so disruptive to the NRL.

I'm pretty confident that the Broncos will average in excess of 30000 next year, and, if they manage to have a better season, and the NRL schedules less matches on Saturdays, they could average around 35000.

I'd be interested if anyone could let me know who is responsible for the overall scheduling of matches. I know that 9 get to choose the Friday and Sunday matches of the round, but is it the NRL or Fox who decides when the other games are played?

It never ceases to amaze me how often the scheduling gets stuffed up. For example, the Knights have been scheduled on Saturday night a number of times this year, despite the fact that they nearly always get a full house on Sunday. Surely the NRL should look to maximise crowds by trying to schedule matches to suit individual team's needs.

Compare the NRL to the AFL. The AFL releases its entire season's draw months before the season kicks off, whereas the NRL releases their's only five weeks in advance. It seems to me that most teams have fairly regular kickoff times, as well. In Brisbane, for example, the Lions play all their matches on Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, always at the same time. In contrast, the Broncos could be playing in any one of up to five timeslots. It's little wonder that the AFL is so far ahead of league in crowd figures.

I'd be interested in seeing the biggest away supported team in the NRL. I'd venture to say St George would be right among them. We are the Liverpool of the NRL - fans everywhere (but without the theiving)

Cheers,
Ben S.

PS: Who the f**k is Danny Green??

Stadium Oz average for 6 games is 29893 (I include the DH)
Showground 10586 , 5 games.

Incidentally, the Brisbane v SGI crowd has tipped this years average crowds to the best in the history of the comp - 14999.
Let's hope the remainder of the round keeps it there.

Based on what Paul said above, the crowd averages for the season should have broken the 15000 mark for the first time in history with 145606 people attending the final round at an average of 20801 per game.

Things are finally starting to look up for the NRL. Here's hoping for a great finals series.

Good stuff by all the clubs this weekend. Although it turned out a dream draw for the NRL with 6 of the top 8 at home.

As for my club, I am not sure what Cronulla's final average was, but I thought our crowds were ok considering our poor form and the ordinary footy we played this year. I've never been to so many terrible home games in a season, but a core of 10000 or so stayed solid. All goes well for next year when I have no doubt we will have a better season.

I made a slight miscalculation - the average ended up as 14,632*. Still better than the previous highest, 2000's 14,446, and the 5th best aggregate overall.

*based on my own method of incorporating the DHs.

The Storm are there to stay. There's too much corporate interest for them not to be there. Get used to them.
