No one ever said that every game would be a sell out or is and will be a sell out, NO1 said it, and if they did they`re kidding themselves. LOL, i know I watched the game at Subiaco, Perth last night the poms vs Russian rep-par tillians in Georgia LOL, and I kept noticing the LACK of ppl sitting in all thaT VAST EMPTY seating, its a shame. Here in Launceston when Romania plays Namibia it`ll be packed out, because I tried to get a ticket yesterday and there was none left, it`ll be interesting to see how many is actually there though at York Park.

SA and Uruguay got 16,906 people. Not a bad crowd but the rain would have affected the attendance.

Bomber, no where is it stated that every game is sold out. Fact is those crowds are very good - even you will recognise this - considering how much I hear league fans say that union a minor sport and no one is interest in it.

You have to say for a country that is so anti union, that is bloody fantastic. Good post Bomber.

Yeah, I've got to admit, crowds are a hell of a lot bigger than I was expecting(45,000+ to see Fiji play France is unreal), especially in a country where so many people absolutely hate union.
Its a long tournament, so crowds will probably drop away until the quarters or semi's hit. Even so, the organisers would have to be pretty happy so far. Good to see teams like Fiji, Japan, Romania & Italy putting up a pretty good fight, too, even if their scores suggest otherwise.

Yeah I like the lok of Romania, they played darn well, just a little unlucky with a few calls. If fiji could just control their tempers and keep a cool head they could give a lot of teams a run for their money. I thought Italy was a little disappointing but then they havent played well all year.

Perhaps I'm being pendantic, and obviously not every seat in every ground will be sold out, but I have been hearing for months and months how this will be a huge event, with massive global interest.

I checked a few online newspapers from across the world.....Georgia, Uruguay, Italy, Romania just aren't interested. A small article in a Canadian newspaper. I guess the yanks won't be interested, unless they beat the 'cheese-eating surrender monkeys' France.

RooPY,
The OZ public extends past Sydney. The RWC is being played around Australia. most tickets have been sold. You are conditioned to people receiving free tigkets to mungo matches

Serveral games have sold out, notably the ones at Aussie Stadium. I know as I tried to get tickets and the sold out in-wait for it-15 minutes.

There have also been numerous press releases from the ARU trumpeting the success of the ticket scheme,

Perhaps I am being harsh, but I don't like seeing people tell white lies and get away with it. :^o [-X

P.S. This is my last Rugby Union post. Enjoy the cup whilst it lasts....I'll be sitting on a beach somewhere. Wake me when it's over.

The reason for such inflated crowd numbers is easy.
1. Overseas supporters. Alot of brits, kiwis(mostly here already), and SAfricans came here supporting their team.
2. If there is an "international" event, hyped up as good as this was, Aussies will go and have a gander, get drunk and go home.
3. Curiosity.

I must say, this is the best thing to happen for league, AFL, and soccer

Soccer, the true international game and World Cup.

Are tickets available at the ground? If not I think the ARU and IRB have shot themselves in the foot. Let's be realistic though Eng V Geo was never gonna be a sell out and neither will other games featuring minnows of world rugby that are being played in major cities (ie Melb, Syd, Per, Bris, Adel).

I'm pretty sure tickets are available at the ground.

But I think you'll be surprised at the size of the crowd expected for Georgia and Uruguay at the SFS. I think 20,000+ will be there which would be an amazing effort.

In fact I think most games at the SFS should have close to capacity crowds, even though they will feature some minnows.

bullshit marcus, we both know a lot of people but tickets to the shithole games so that they had a chance to get tickets to the final and opening ceremony. If 20k show up then ill flash me dacks down George Street the day after

Why do i say that? The canucks/welsh game said that 30k tickets had been pre-sold. How many turned up? 24k. Thats 6,000 ppl who bought tix that didnt turn up, and even thats assuming a zero walk-up attendance

And yet league semi finals did not sell out ?? yet listen to the hype that was generated around those games. The very heart of league. League is just as much a hype machine as union. Stop being so narrow minded and pretending that league is not guilty of the same faults as union or any other major sporting event.

League semi finals happen every year. They rate their tits off and get decent enough crowds. The Bulldogs v Roosters game was a sell-out this year anyway.

The yawnion cup has been billed as this once in a lifetime thing. Big difference.

What a load of crap, its still the same type of marketing machine that build up these type of events. If you believe other wise you are very naive.
