It's a bit off-topic but, I reckon they should pull down Telstra Stadium and build a Suncorp-clone there. 50k stadiums are big enough for most big league games IMO.
And then make every suburban ground a boutique little 20-25k seater and regional grounds (Newcastle, CC, GC, NQ, WIN, Canberra) 25-30k seaters.

What are the chances of building a 25,000 seater in the olympic park area and have it run by the same guys who run Telstra stadium?

It's the same at Shark Park. My mate copped a $180 fine for parking on the street near the stadium. Fair dinkum saw about 10 traffic cop cars patrolling the neighbourhood that night. Build a f**king parking lot you Sharkie bastards!!

Toyota Park has 2 parking lots, and a footy field that they use to park on for game days.
If your mate was too tight to pay the $9 to park in there, he deserves his $180 fine!

And if you catch the train to Woolooware Station, there are free buses to and from Toyota Park prior to and after the game. So public transport IS a real option.

and...... Sydney does NOT need another stadium.

Public transport at Toyota Park is fine. Leichhardt and Brookvale it's a joke - there's either the big walk to Norton St (which requires crossing that road... what's it called... City West Link or something?) or there's one bus that stops closer but is infrequent and usually you have to wait over an hour after the game to get on one that hasn't already filled up.

Brookvale, as already mentioned - 40 minute bus ride from Wynyard, and you have to get to Wynyard first... although public transport in the Manly area is terrible regardless. Penrith, from memory, isn't that great either.

So they should knock down a 600 million dollar stadium and build again just to suit rugby league? rofl

They don't need to knock it down to make it suit rugby league, just bring in the seats behind the trylines and make the seats along the sidelines closer. It'd be amazing.

Public transport in Manly is fine. Once you start heading North (like Brookvale) it's f*cking awful. They need that proposed rail link from Chatswood pronto.

Although I had to admit it, Melbourne has things right...

On the left, you will see a grey oval that is the 53k capacity Telstra Dome. On the right is the MCG, and across Brunton Avenue there is the Rod Laver Arena, Olymipc Park, and the new Rectangular Stadium. All within a kilometre or two of the CBD.

Though I doubt it would actually happen, I would love it too.

I really like the idea of each club having their own ground in their respective area. Inefficient? Perhaps. But it's one thing that marks our sport out from the godless hordes to the South.

Sydney's Olympic Park is similar to this even though it's not as close to the CBD, and there's no reason why Moore Park can't become like that too if they build some rail to the site. In 15 years time a 60,000 seat modern rectangle and a 60,000 seat SCG with a good rail link would make it pretty damn awesome.

The SFS and SCG isn't a far walk from Central station.

If it's already been mentioned, I apologise, but put this in perspective a little...

We're talking about a stadium which has to compete with Aussie and Telstra for tennants here. The fans and players will not put up with a sub-par stadium, even if it is their 'home' ground, if there is a far superior stadium within spitting distance.

That means that this project would probably be on a par with Skilled Park or the new Melbourne Stadium, which cost (respectively) $160 million and $268 million.

Can anyone see big Russ or Tony forking out that kind of cash - because with a surplus of venues as is, its hard to see the government kicking in any money at all towards the stadium - Clover More has said as much, noting that one of the principal things she'd be concerned about would be proximity to other venues.

Remember, even if Big Russ does somehow cough up a quater of a billion dollars for this stadium, the taxpayer still has to foot the bill for things like urban development around the stadium, encompassing things like car parking, rail links, etc, which would run to the tens of millions. This would make development permission difficult to obtain at best.

This is - quite obviously I believe - the two of them sabre-rattling at the SCG trust in order to get a better contract to play at Aussie Stadium next time around.

Besides, at the end of the day, Russ and Tony have both stated before that they believe their respective clubs will be able to average 30k+ to home fixtures in the not to distant future (what's kinda funny is they both seem like they believe what they're saying when they say that). So if they think they can average 30k to a game, why on earth would they fork out massive chunks of their own personal wealth to build a stadium which is too small for what they want?

That's not even close to the main problem with Telstra.

The main problem with Telstra is the relative position the anything above the 1st tier starts on the East and West Stands.

They were designed when it was an athletics stadium, thus around 85-100 metres wide.
Good stadium design will have it so that even the first seat of the upper tier will be a couple of metres to the verticle plane of the sideline.

On Telstra the first seat of the upper tier is a good 10-15 metres from the verticle plane of the side line. Make it a poor seat, and every other seat in the tier is behind that one, thus further away.

All the gradient of the lower tier is pretty shallow and makes for poor viewing.

If the SFS could have its curved roof rippered off, have a second tier added to the north and south ends, and the upper tiers of the east and west stand squared off.. even if it only held 60,000.. that'd still be good enough for mine to never use Telstra stadium ever again.

Nice design as far as how pretty putting concrete, glass and plastic together... but a sh*t stadium to watch football.

The AFL managed real well to kill what should be our best stadium for a grand contribution of $1,000,000.

The athletics track in this photo gives you a good idea.
Look at how far away the frist row of seats is from the grass. Then look at how far away the upper deck (on the right hand side) is from the front row. Deadset, you are at least 30metres away from the sideline there.

Compared to the 42,000 capacity of The Stadium of Light

Or even the 35,000 capacity of The Riverside Stadium
