It won't happen if if the Great Lord Sir Russell Crowe the Magnificent says it won't. Sorry Bears, Reds and assorted Qld bids - the great man has spoken.

since russell has done such a wonderful job of turning the bunnies into an international brand, we can relocate the bunnies instead of kicking them out..

Afterall, the lovely folks of adelaide or papua new guniea watch oprah, so they'll be able to identify with their new team..

Yet another thread on expansion. Good thing for supporters of the NRL moving forward that he isn't on the NRL board. Crowe is looking after his own clubs self interest, not saying anything against the man or the club but that is what he is doing.

And advising Tinkler not tp buy the Knights. FFS is his vision for every club to run on a lean budget with bugger all chance of success?

Russell Crowe = George Piggins with a nicer haircut.

fmd. I know what article you read. The one that left out the bit about how that was "tongue in cheek". Later on in the article Crowe says how it's a great idea.

I like Russell and his support for RL but I disagree with 100%. Expansion is an absolute must.

Just about every club owner/ceo will be against expansion. Their priority is their club, not the NRL.

there you go again , Loudstrat , the distorting Troll. Loudstrat , who says , Crowe is OK , however always looking to bring him down . Loudstrat the distorting Troll.

Did you read the full article Loudstrat ? did you note that there was subtle humour in Crowe's advice to Tinkler. The message i got from the full article was that Crowe was letting Tinkler know that buying the Knights would take up more of his time and change his life. Like comments that married men make to a new groom about getting married and having family. The same sort of subtle , don't do it!!
But Loudstrat would rather distort the humour -- get a life you negative distorter.

No suprise. I'm expecting all of the CEOs to come out against expansion.

Crowe giving his opinion on expansion , not hiding it , and unless he is giving the decision , the final decision will be a group one. Some folks will agree and others will not. However , i do think the NRL needs to get stronger i.e. have more sponsorship and lift the CAPS , so that the NRL clubs can compete with the other codes for the best talent . NRL needs to fix funding for existing clubs first before expanding , as we do not need more "chook raffle " clubs.

you can always expand your business in area that are not over saturated. If i was the owner of a franchising busniness i would not open 10 in one area and ignore areas that had great potential to offer great returns

His comment was ignorant though, running at a loss is NOT poor business.

Some of the biggest clubs in the world run at a loss, revenue levels is what we should be looking at.

Well Michael Searle already did it earlier in the week, and some people think he's the best thing for the game. An independent commission is only worthwhile if it is independent. Part of me worries that it's going to lead to s**thouse infighting because everyone is just going to be looking after their own interests.

Impossible to get a truly independent commission though isn't it...

If we had an IC these clowns wouldn't have a say anyway.

Now we don't (until 2012) the majority of clubs will be against expansion it will be interesting to see what happens mid-year now in regards to the announcement.

I don't think he's simply 'looking out for his own'. He sounds like he's holding the game in genuine interest here. That said he is off the mark.

A failing enterprise should not interfere with the creation of potentially profitable new enterprises. If the current team line-up were selected back in the 90's the way they're selected now we would see a very different NRL competition. I can see profitability a major part of the criteria for success for future bids so in terms of a team making a profit I don't think any new teams should be effected.
