Crusaders are no more...

Crusaders hopes of playing in the Co-operative Championships are all but over, with the departure of CEO Rod Findlay the club cannot meet the financial requirements of a Championship club. The RFL are still in talks about the club participating in the third divison Championship 1, where they could join Neath based South Wales Scorpions.

The Co-operative Championship will consist of 9 teams in 2012 with Dewsbury facing relegation and Toulouse deciding to return to the French competition. Workington, Rochdale, Swinton or Keighley will be promoted depending on who wins the final on October 2.

It's time to start afresh. At Championship One level or even one lower. Wrexham Warriors or something, completely shake the Crusaders tag off and start over.

By the way, 9 is a TERRIBLE number for a league. Either let Dewsbury survive or promote an extra team...

Wrexham Warriors.. no way! If they are ever to enter Super League again they cannot use that name, maybe North Wales Crusaders, ditch the feathers, new logo, I would prefer something similar to the old Celtic Crusaders logo. So basically they need to start from scratch. I have doubts whether they can find the right people to lead such a club with the departure of Rod Findlay.

I agree nine clubs in the Championship is a terrible look and that needs to be adressed, at least 10 is needed! tough times ahead for the RFL:roll:

There are possible new teams joining in 2013 but none next year. Championship 1 would be good but unclear what lower divisions there will be for them to play in yet as even the clubs who had their application to join Championship 1 put back a year have potentially been left in limbo with the confusion.

It is possible Dewsbury will survive as Barrow are facing potential relegation for serious breaches of the salary cap plus promoted C1 side Swinton are yet to sort out a ground.

I thought Swinton went up automatically as Champions and the next six teams take part in the playoffs to determine who will join them in the CC.

I really don't like how some 'new' teams feel like they have to be ashamed that they represent a particular town or region. Wrexham is where they're based, why not call them Wrexham? I doubt the name would stop other league fans in the North of Wales from supporting them. I support Wigan and I've never even been there in my life. There are Barcelona and Man Utd fans all over the world, I bet they never considered changing their name to something like Catalonia and NW England Utd respectively...

Anyway, there are bigger obstacles at the moment than a name, and I hope some of their hardcore fans and/or local businessman can step up and fund a new team....

Actually United were originally called Newton Heath, a suburb of Manchester, so they obviously thought the bigger picture was the way to go even if they don't play in Manchester. ;-)

As things stand Swinton don't have a ground for next year. They have the Agecroft site but nothing has been done to it at all, and they won't be able to play at The Willows next year for obvious reasons. The RFL gave them a deadline to tell them where they'd be playing but I've not heard anything since then. Really need to get a move on.

They'd be mad to walk away from Barton and go to somewhere like Leigh. This past season has shown that there are people in Swinton (and surrounds) that remember them and will support them if given the chance. It's been their best year, on and off the field, for years.

Barton would cost a fortune for them to rent though I imagine. There was a deal with the council to play free at the Willows thus year but it clearly doesn't extend to Barton.

Swinton had a deal with Salford. They played there rent free last year. This year because Salford have moved they would have to pay rent, as the ground has running costs (these would of been spent anyway with Salford there, hence the free rent).

Last i heard they were looking at Leigh. Not ideal though as Leigh are in the same league, so they ain't gonna find new fans that way!

I think the issue over Wrexham Warriors was the Warriors name. Unless we relocate Wigan? They can have there own identity then, and not be at the mercy of Dave Whelen and the Latics... :D

There are 2 Wrexham bids. One is the Crusaders for Championship and one is a brand new club for C1. It's a case of either/or though not both.

I think taking the name "Warriors" into the SL would get shot down due to Wigan already marketing that name
