Ctrl N

This has always opened up a new page for me so I can browse another site whilst having LU-TFR active at all times.

However, within the last few days Ctrl N does not do this. It only refreshes the page I'm viewing but will not open another page.

Can someone tell me why this is so and how to resolve the problem, please?

Also....

....as much as I enjoy MSN Messenger, ICQ and other programs at Start Up, it slows things down when I'm in a hurry to log in and do my thing.

How can I remove programs from my Start Up so they do not come on at will but rather under my demand?

I'm using Windows XP and IE.

Thanking you in advance.

Blade.

Don't know about Crl-N but for start up programs

NB make sure you have a working restore point (in system tools on start-programs- acessories-system tools) then

click START (on taskbar) and then click RUN

type in <msconfig> and click OK

check the appropriate boxes on the STARTUP tab;

when you restart it will keep warning you about the new cofiguration until you check the don't warn me any more box.

<Spastic typing noticed by Paullboy and corrected by me.>

Using MSConfig puts your system in maintence mode.

A better way to do remove the programs from startup direct.

A lot of programs (ICQ included, but not MSN) have an option to disable loading at start, but it's quicker to do them all at once.

Most are in the registry so use regedit.

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

and delete the appropriate keys.

If they aren't in there, go in via HKCU instead of HKLM - depends on the program, some put it in for all users or just the current user.

NOTE: RealPlayer will add it back again next time you load the program. The only way to stop RealPlayer from loading at startup permanently is to change the option in RealPlayer itself.

MSN Messenger

Open messenger, goto tools -> Options
Click the general tab
Unclick Automatically run messenger when i log into windows.
Click 'ok'

Would love to fix the Ctrl N problem too if anyone can help.
