Panthers didn't want Burton until he became relevant (ie, Luai getting injured), and always played him out of position. They didn't respect him, that's why he asked for a release.Throw in Kikau and Salmon, there’s a few more Panthers to love.
What a load of crapPanthers didn't want Burton until he became relevant (ie, Luai getting injured), and always played him out of position. They didn't respect him, that's why he asked for a release.
It's common knowledge he wanted an early release to play five-eighth and link-up with Phil Gould again - and this was before Penrith won the 2001 GF. Penrith made Luai their priority (obviously, given he was always their give-eighth).What a load of crap
Over the years many great centres have shifted to five-eighth, and in some cases the shift has made them among the best five-eighths in the competition. Brad Fittler and Laurie Daley come to mind.We couldn't compete with the bulldog offer because we upgraded Crighton who was agitating for more money, so we just held Burton to see out his contract , he got a premiers ring in hindsight. Im sure he was happy he saw it out , he is a centre he is not a 5/8 but your club's stubbornness to persevere with him playing there won't reap much further benefit.
