The worst injury prone players in the game, all in one side, all out with hammy injuries.
Who would of thought.

Was that Dugan’s reason for his late withdrawal ?

Cools kept asking “where’s Dugan?”

Commentators said just as the warm up finished Dugan felt his hamstring go.
My old boy is a Dragons nut and he used to always say when things looked bad for the team, Duges would suddenly develop a heartilage injury and miss the game. I like Duges the player but FMD he is getting hard to defend all the time.

Most relevant thread here tbh.

Our shocking injury toll and lack of depth is making these matches an exercise in trying to hold the fort until our best team (which is still very good) gets back on the field.

Riccio saying Gray, Katoa and Flangan have been pulled out of Jets game to prepare for NRL next week. SJ hamstring “pretty bad” he says.

@shaggs I remembered when you posted this back in December last year.
You called it.

But the last year or two, the players have seemed either underdone or burnt out. Plus the injuries increased exponentially last year.

Burn out from doing the same thing for years isn’t uncommon among athletes.
The new guys like Morris and Johnson might improve, but the long termers will struggle under the same regime.

Full blown mental midget is Dugan. Not got the required mental capacity or emotional resilience...

Terrible signing. We should try and retire him off GI style.

Here is my take on the teams physical status so far.
I think if we were privy to the S&C notes and plan we would see something like this.

Based on John Morris’ own physical
Fitness and condition, we require a team that can play for the full 80.
Therefore off season training will consist of long runs and mentally and physically taxing cardio sessions followed by short sessions of ball work. Skills to be done under fatigue.

Team last year was over run at the end of the season. This season we will aim to start the season under heavy load until round 10 before tapering off for 10 rounds and then a short hard period of 4 weeks before the semis.

That’s great and all, but the team is physically done before round 5.
They all have heavy legs. We are slow off the line and slow into contact. There is no explosion and no power. (The 2 biggest parts of winning teams currently)
The emphasis of on cardio has had the adverse affect on the power and contact.

Mentally the team is burnt out. (Not uncommon after a heavy load period)
Causing a lack of attitude and merkin in the tackle. One of our biggest positives over the past few years.
Are we doing the 1% ers? Are we putting our body on the line as much??

The heavy physical load I have predicted is the reason for the spate of soft tissue injuries. Constant medium paced load followed by explosions of speed on fatigued bodies.

Woods broken foot, gals ribs and bakuyas broken thumb are footy injuries and can’t be predicted.

Moylan, Johnson, Fifita and dugans hammies are overload issues.
Dugan and Moylan are known for soft tissue injuries.

Were they mismanaged?? Johnson is a guy who doesn’t need kilometres in his legs. Fifita has leg injuries all 2018.

The teams basic skills are at a much lower level than the top teams. Catch and pass, catch under pressure, dummy half passing etc are poor in comparison to a team like the roosters.

Again, to me shows an emphasis on cardio on the off season.

It’s early in the year and this base of fitness may prove critical at the end of the year, but at the moment to me it looks like the wrong choice.
