It would have been great to see Dufty and Field paired as our halves in the trials. I too think Dufty / Field would make a good running halfback however, we do need a Norman type player to manage the game. Can't see either Field or Dufty going well at halfback but both doing very well at 6.

So, my preference is an unconventional one, Dufty on the wing and Field at 6 with Mitchell at fullback.

Unfortunately, I fear that Dufty will have the same problems on the wing as he has at full back- he just doesn't fit the modern prototype of the preferably tall and powerful- or at least powerful ( eg Pereira) outside back and I doubt he ever will. I believe he can become an effective game manager if given the chance. However, the sad reality is that I can see both Dufty and Field leaving the Dragons in the near future. Unless the Dragons are brain dead and choose to persist with Dufty at full-back, he and Field will be competing for Mary's favourite bench role for backs (such as Mann and now Aitken) he doesn't know what to do with- utility ie coming off the bench for 5 minutes at the end of matches.

Yes, you may be right however, Dufty given some broken play and being instructed to head away from the sideline when returning the ball may at least minimise the problem caused by his size. In defence he might just be covered by the fullback and in open space he may be a try scoring machine.

Anyone suggesting Dufty could play wing must have stopped watching the game in the 90s...
Trying to accommodate a very good attacking player who is below first grade standard in defence. He is our last line of defence and rarely provides a tackle to save a try.

How do you think he'd go defending against the likes of Vunivalu, Tupou or Campbell Graham? Or trying to out jump one of them on a cross field kick? Or taking hit ups out of or own quarter to give the forwards a break? Or running back a kick return?

Hopefully Dufty will hang on to him slowing him down until Lomax or Mitchell stops him.
