Daine Laurie needs to be the Raiders’starting half

He’s way too good to be pigeonholed as an NRL journeyman. Was the Panthers’ Jersey Flegg player of the year . Came through the ranks as a fullback and five eighth. Looked every inch a natural class half back against the Admittedly under strength Storm. Has a bit of Cliff Lyons about him with the way he holds the ball and had the defence second guessing.

Seems to be a confidence player so Ricky should hand him the keys to the car for the first 10 weeks of the season. He could very well turn out to be the buy of the season . Ethan Sanders can come off the bench.

Yeah nah.

Gonna be very handy filling in here and there at half or fb. Ideal option to have off the extended bench.

But we'll just have him in our pocket for 3 months just in case the whole Sanders experiment falls over. But so far Sanders has looked ok in his chances.

Laurie one of those guys who looks "too good not to be xyz" in his fill in roles because he does better than expected- but gets picked apart over a season imo.

He’s got some ability but he’s too small. Also he’s heart attack material under a high ball, good for a couple of drops a game. There seemed to be an uproar when we dropped him but Bula is the far superior fullback.
You have summed Laurie up perfectly. His best role in an nrl side is a backs / halves utility. I remember Laurie's last two games for the Tigers were in the halves and he played pretty well there. I would not have him playing there for 27 weeks though as he'll be an obvious target in the defensive line.

There is a serious problem down in the ACT:

Ethan Strange
Ethan Sanders

No club has won a premiership with two Ethan's in the halves. Even more damning is that they both share the same initials (ES).

And unfortunately the problems run even deeper. Ethan Alaia has been playing in the halves for the Raiders during the trials.

ANOTHER Ethan. That makes three. In what world do three Ethan's = one Jamal?

Laurie in the 7 is an attempt to paper over the cracks.

He also had a few attitude issues with us, the panthers jersey on grand final night as well as liking posts on socials after he was dropped and we would lose a game. Not hanging offences but it gave the sense he never really wanted to be here and only came so he could play first grade. Once that stopped he was back at Penrith in reserve grade. See how he goes at Canberra. I can see it going either way.

Yep, right again. I have no grudge against the bloke and hope he goes well at Canberra. In saying that, I was happy that we let him go.
