Just read in RLW that Penrith are unlikely to resign Daine Laurie. Wondered if he would be a good signing and probably come cheap. We know he has the talent and would be a good mix with Fui.

no thanks.

has totally dropped off the scene with his move to the Panthers. watched him in the Aboriginal Knockout last year and he was very poor in that. hasn't done anything for so long now that there must be some major reason behind it.

You've alway gotta wonder why a guy's club is letting him go.

Unless the answer is that the club already has a lot of quality and depth at the position, then it's usually because the player lacks talent or attitude.

He's a massive unit, but obviously he doesn't have the fire in the belly to achieve. Lazy unfortunately.

Too young, too hard a project. Bit like FuiFui MoiMoi when he was running around at South Sydney...just need someone to see the blokes' potential..

We need to stop thinking about these type of players, not sure why Parra has become the welcoming committee to every lost soul in footy. Let's concentrate on blokes who want to play footy. Laurie is a massive talent lost to rugby league, he will regret it later in life, not our problem though.

Leave it to Wayne Bennett or Craig Bellamy...too hard for other coaches...

I agree here, what is the worst case senario: you sign him to a 2nd teir contract and he fails. Moimoi was brought here and he is now one of the best props around, Laurie has plenty of ability but obviously lacks discipline. Bring him in, give him goals to achieve and if he can't then let him go.

If he was going to crack it as a first grader he would have done so already. Simply just another promising player who just never had the attitude to make a career for himself. Not interested.

He was never even that good in Group 1/NRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRL. He just jagged a good few games when a Wests Tigers scout was watching aboriginal knockout.

Same could be said of players like Moi Moi, Weyman and Cuthbertson. At the end of the day if the player has to find self motivation to make it and a change of club or personnel could help him. Your talking about a low risk signing, nothing to loose and if it works all to gain.

Laurie will be 27 soon so time is running our for him. It's not like he's a solid first grader at his previous clubs he's only played 20 odd first grade games. His discipline and attitude let him down and that's why the Tigers and Penrith cut him loose. He's also not the best role model off the field he even spent time in prison prior to making his NRL debut.

I was once a Laurie fan. I think part of that attraction was that he was some other clubs problem. I still cant get over how big he had gotten at the start of this season. He would get no further than Wenty, and would probably struggle to make NSW Cup at that.

In an organisation like a professional sporting club, any new member could potentially do more harm than good. Given all the impressionable young blokes in the place it's easy for one forceful personality to erode morale and discipline and undermine the organisation's leadership.

Look at all the clubs that pick up after Willie Mason leaves.
