Former Australia and Queensland rugby league great Dale Shearer is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after a car crash on the Sunshine Coast.
An emergency services spokeswoman said crews attended the scene near the corner of Murdering Creek Road and Emu Point Road at Weyba Downs shortly after 11.15pm (AEST) yesterday.
"The man was suffering head and chest injuries and was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a serious condition," the spokeswoman said.
The 43-year-old was flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with head and chest injuries.
A hospital spokeswoman confirmed Shearer's condition.
"I've spoken to the family but they don't want to make any further comment at this stage," she said.
A police media spokesman said officers had taken a blood sample from Shearer to investigate whether alcohol had played a role in the crash.
The speed at which Shearer was travelling at the time of the crash will also be investigated by police.
The crash happened one year after his wife Delyse's death from cancer.
Shearer played 26 Origin games for Queensland and represented Australia in 20 internationals.
