Sources: Cowboys DE Randy Gregory to return to practice Wednesday while appealing latest drug suspension

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/dal...urn-practice-appealing-latest-drug-suspension

There's no assurance Randy Gregory will play for the Cowboys in the final two games of this season.

But at the moment, there's a chance.

A source said Gregory will practice with the team for the first time this season on Wednesday as the Cowboys prepare for their game against the New York Giants. The defensive end isn't eligible to return from his current suspension until Dec. 19, but a provision allows him to resume practicing with the team two weeks prior to that date.

The Cowboys are in urgent need of a pass rusher. So if Gregory can and does return then it could benefit the team greatly.

Update

Gregory will not be able to practise with the team until his suspension has been lifted on December 19th

If this Cowboys team can add a full strength Jaylon Smith next season (or even this season as I have heard he is now in training) then it is going to win super bowls (provided Dak Prescott is not just in some sort of first season bubble).

I don't see Smith playing this season. The question with him, will be able to return to the form he showed at college before his devastating injury.

As for Prescott, I too am a little worried he could be a one year wonder. But if he is then let him lead us to a super bowl victory this season.

Yet Aldon Smith's actual suspension ended over a fortnight ago... and the NFL still aren't allowing him to have any contact with the Raiders.

Im feeling this a little bit too, i just need SOMEONE to stop the cowboys this year.
If that happens, ill take my chances with them in the NFCE going forward.. just someone needs to stop them this year

Im concerned

I don't know enough about Smith's suspension to comment. As for Gregory, let's wait till his suspension is up to see what the NFL do then.

My big concern this year is the defensive side of the ball. We dont have much if anything of a pass rush, which has led to very few sacks and interceptions.

Cowboys primary KR/PR, Lucky Whitehead will be not playing against the Giants this weekend. It seems he broke team rules and has been penalised for doing so.

Most likely Cole Beasley will replace him in those roles of returning kicks.

With a victory over the Eagles next weekend the Cowboys would end up 14--2 for the first time in their history.

Their best season record stands at 13-3 which they have obtained twice. Last in 2007 and previous to that in 1992.

Would also give Dak the record for most wins by a QB in their rookie season (currently tied with Big Ben at 13)

A bit of pressure being placed on Garrett to rest some starters like Prescott and give Roma a run. While I can understand the thought behind it I am not a fan of resting players.

If we are up at the during the 3rd qtr I'd put Romo in just to get some snaps.

Touchdown Pass To Witten Highlights Career Outing For Dez Bryant

ARLINGTON, Texas – Dez Bryant remembered vividly how he felt when the play call came in for a wide receiver pass, but it isn’t exactly fit for print.

“I was like ‘What?’ – that’s what I’m thinking in my head,” Bryant said. “There was cuss words going everywhere.”

It was the play call that transformed a competitive Monday night game into a 42-21 laugher. Leading Detroit, 28-21, facing a 1st-and-Goal at the Lions’ 10-yard line, Bryant motioned left across the Cowboys’ formation.

Streaking through the backfield, he caught a flipped lateral from Dak Prescott. When the Lions bit on the reverse, he tossed a smooth, slow-sailing arc to Jason Witten – all alone for an easy touchdown.

“I was really nervous,” Bryant said. “Now, when we executed the play, I was like ‘Yes, that’s what I’m talking about.’ I hit ‘em with the Steph Curry – I threw the ball, I kind of looked and I turned around because I knew it was completed.”

It was a play Bryant said the Cowboys have been working on for five weeks or more. And on Monday, it was the standout play of what was assuredly one of the best outings of his career.

On top of trying his hand at quarterback, Bryant had a decent night at receiver, as well. With the Lions willing to try him in one-on-one coverage, he starred to the tune of four catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

“It’s funny,” Prescott said. “If they want to take that matchup – they believe in their guy, I believe in our guys. We’ll see who wins.”

Bryant won all over the field against an overmatched Lions secondary. The one target he didn’t catch was a 36-yard penalty for defensive pass interference. The other four went for big gains – including two acrobatic touchdowns.

“Let’s let ‘em keeping doing it,” Bryant said of single coverage. “It’s a catch or a PI, one of the two.”

In some cases, it’s both. Long before he threw his first career touchdown, Bryant made an early contender for play of the day in the second quarter. Facing single coverage from Detroit cornerback Johnson Bademosi, Bryant drew a defensive pass interference flag in the corner of the end zone on a 25-yard pass from Prescott.

It turned out to be irrelevant, however, as Bryant reached around Bademosi, batted the ball with one hand and hauled in a contested touchdown as he fell to the floor.

“Y’all think it was a pretty cool catch? I thought it was average,” he said. “I felt like I’ve had better.”

The hits kept on coming as the Cowboys pulled away from the opposition. Bryant put an end to the day’s scoring early in the fourth quarter, when he fought off another Detroit corner, Nevin Lawson, to pull down his second touchdown of the night.

Having already tied Michael Irvin’s franchise touchdown mark on Dec. 1 against Minnesota, the two scores pushed Bryant alone into second place in team history. With 67 career receiving touchdowns, he needs just four more to tie Bob Hayes for most in the club’s storied history.

The game also made Bryant just the fifth player in NFL history to catch two touchdowns and throw another in the same game.

But for Bryant himself, it goes back to throw – which he later described as the best touchdown experience of his life. It’s long been known that the All-Pro receiver had the arm strength, and he recalled touchdown passes he threw back in high school.

But to connect with Witten for six points was on a bit of a different level.

“That was one of the best feelings, because I look up to Witt,” he said. “I got to complete a pass to him. That’s a Hall of Famer. I just thought that was pretty cool. That’s one of those moments that’s going to forever be with me.”

As if the touchdown wasn’t enough, Bryant even saw Witten throw up the ‘X,’ his signature touchdown celebration – as if a memorable night couldn’t get better.

“I’ve told you guys before how proud I am of him and who he’s become,” Witten said. “He had a great night, some big catches. He and Dak are on the same page and really connecting. That was a great moment for us.”

Gregorys extended suspension should surprise no one. While he has football talent he also has the talent to get in to trouble off the field. In my opinion his career as a Cowboy is over and I have great doubt we will ever see him on the gridiron again.

Divisional Round Odds: Dallas Cowboys Open As 4-Point Favorites Against Green Bay Packers

The Dallas Cowboys have opened as 4-point favorites against the Green Bay Packers for next Sunday's divisional round matchup.
by One.Cool.Customer@OCC44 Jan 9, 2017, 10:30am CST TWEET

The Cowboys will host the Packers in next Sunday's Divisional Round game, and the Cowboys opened as 4-point favorites in that game. The over/under for the game is set at 51.5, so expectations are for a high-scoring game. The two teams last met earlier this season, when the Cowboys pulled off a 30-16 win in Green Bay, but expectations are for a much closer game this time around.

That can't be said for all divisional round games.

On Saturday night, the Patriots are currently 16-point favorites against the Texans. That is the highest spread for a Divisional Round game since the 1998-99 season. The other three games look to be a little more competitive, at least on paper.

In the early game on Saturday, the Falcons opened as 3.5-point home favorites over the Seahawks, but early sharp action on Atlanta has moved the odds to -4.5 already.

The first game on Sunday opened with even odds between the Chiefs and the visiting Steelers, but the odds have since moved to make the Chiefs 1-point home favorites

Here's the full list of early odds for the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs:

Date and Time Favorite Line Underdog Total
1/14 4:35 ET At Atlanta -4.5 Seattle 51
1/14 8:15 ET At New England -16 Houston 45
1/15 1:05 ET At Kansas City -1 Pittsburgh 46
1/15 4:40 ET At Dallas -4 Green Bay 51.5

The wildcard round saw all four home teams win their games quite handily, will we see a repeat performance by the home teams in the divisional round?

The Cowboys are 7-1 at home this season, while the Packers are just 4-4 on the road this year.

Brandon Carr considering retirement. Will make his decision come the start of the free agency period.

Carr has copped a lot of criticism for his performances as a Cowboy. Dallas paid him a lot of greenbacks to be the shutdown corner that needed. Unfortunately he didn't live up to those expectations.

I admire his performance as a player. He gave his all and that S all we can ever ask a player of.

If its retirement or playing elsewhere next season I want to wish him the best.
