The non News Ltd media needs to start pumping up the RLPA Players Champion Award night. Thats the big one.
This year it was on September 13 and I barely heard about it. Jason Taumalolo won and Cody Walker got rookie of the year.
It is voted on by the players rather than scum like Dean Ritchie, Nick Walshaw & James Hooper etc. Thats why the players consider it more prestigious.
The Dally M awards is news limited owned. It gets very little coverage in the SMH or any other fairfax publications or the ABC because the award is totally controlled by those Rugby League hating F-witts News Ltd.
The players do not have much respect for the Dally M's, that is one reason why they are prepared to boycott it when they are negotiating their slice of the NRL revenue. Thats also why a few years ago the players almost refused to talk during their acceptance speeches. Thats also why they decided to establish their own award called the RLPA Players Champion.
The NRL is such a joke for letting its official awards night be controlled by one media outlet that has shown very little respect for the game in its history including Murdoch's legendary threats last year to bury the game.
