NRLW: Dragons sign former Broncos quartet

BIG SIGNING: Queensland and Jillaroos hooker and reigning Female Player of the Year Brittany Breayley will link with the Dragons for the upcoming NRLW season. Picture: NRL Photos

ST GEORGE Illawarra have pulled off a major recruitment coup, signing four players from Brisbane's NRLW premiership winning squad last season, headed by Jillaroos No. 9 Brittany Breayley.

The Maroons hooker and reigning Dally M Female Player of the Year will head south along with Kiwi Ferns trio Kimiora Nati, Maitua Feterika and Teuila Fotu-Moala joining a Dragons squad that already includes nine members of the Blues State of Origin-winning side.

They'll form part of what's shaping as a formidable roster at the disposal of returning women's coach Daniel Lacey.

"Brittany is the best hooker in the game," Lacey said.

"She will bring plenty of hype to this team and push the entire squad in the right direction. Her record and achievements speak for themselves.

"There's no doubting she'll add several strings to our bow and change the way we approach games. We are very excited by what she'll bring to the team and I think she can get even better, which is a scary thought for opposition teams."

Playmaker Nati will be part of an exciting spine alongside Breayley and Blues halfback Maddie Studdon, while Feterika Fotu-Moala will bring plenty if muscle up front.

"With Kimiora's signing, we now have two experienced playmakers with fantastic kicking and running games," Lacey said.

"Players like Kimiora are only going to benefit our game management. Her performance in last year's Women's Premiership grand final proved to me what she is capable of producing no matter the circumstances.

"Through her presence, her commitment, her tackle technique and everything in between, Teuila is a player everyone wants to play with and not against.

"She'll bring size and intimidation to our pack, and is coming to the Dragons to become even better than what she already is despite being one of the more recognisable players in the game already."

Feterika boasts the rare distinction of having represented New Zealand, Samo and Queensland.

"Maitua has already expressed to me she wants to win another Women's Premiership grand final," Lacey said.

"I know when Maitua plays and trains at her best, she brings a whole different level of energy and commitment which in turn only helps her team's game.

"She's played a number positions over her career already also which is something I'm keen to further explore."

When these woman train for years I’ll watch it. They have been promoted into the game for the sake of political correctness. In no way do they deserve equal pay either. When the next generation come though who have been playing since age five I’ll watch it. When is men’s netball league starting ? It won’t be because the men’s netball league would be of a higher standard and we men would absolutely DOMINATE them and the lefties can’t have that !!!

Agree wholy brutalitops. As someone who has played league since I was 5 and have also played with girls this is an awful attitude. Some of my girl friends have gone on to play for Qld and also WRL. Not only have they been playing their whole life they could also break this Merkin in half

You went to a lot of trouble to write a lengthy post.

Could have just written “I’m a merkin” and saved a lot of time.

Agree it is nice to see the women’s team doing so well and as others have said - so sad that the men’s team can not replicate their success , both on the field and with recruitment.
