I'm tipping they will be awarded at a later date. ;-)

i don't think so

from a story on the ABC website

ABC website story said:
The results of this year's NRL major player awards will never be known.

The NRL says all Dally M award votes will be destroyed after awards ceremony was cancelled.

There was no award for player of the year in 1997.

Yes. Brad Fittler won it. The Provan-Summons medal was awarded to the best & fairest that year.

The thread is about the Dally M's, there was no Dally M player of the year.

Original quotes

Me - "Yes. No awards will be awarded this year. First time in 35 years, there will be no official player of the year."

You - "There was no award for player of the year in 1997."

I didn't mention Dally M. I said Official POY. Dally M wasn't the official POY award until 1998.

I think the move of cancelling the awards night was so ridiculous that it nearly made my arse leap out of my mouth.

Honestly, Gallop. You aren’t in a court room now buddy, when you are threatened in the real world mate you compromise or threaten in return, you don’t go DEFCON 1 straight away do you? This will only harden the resolve of the players and it will make the future possibility of a season shut out possible.

I find the fact that the NRL web site, and executive are commenting publicly about the sticking points as being very strange. In normal negotiations the first thing you do is set about signing non-disclosure agreements to keep this crap out of the newspapers. HELLO, why has this not been done? - Because Gallop the 5 minute business man has got NFI.

I find the minimum wage of 37,500 to be a very fair deal; I find the fact that the NRL covering player’s payments in the event of a club collapse is also fair. I mean the NRL doesn’t even exist without the Clubs, so why should it not guarantee player payments when they gather and dispurse teh revenue, surely they should be responsible for underwriting player payments, it is the clubs money not theirs.

I am not usually a lefty but this time I am with the Reds; I hope Butsy gives em hell.

BTW - Gallop, you are starting to look like a CEO with no practical business experience now......go back to the News Ltd Legal team where you belong, get us a real CEO that understands how to negotiate.

-GS.
