Daniel Anderson and Jarryd Hayne on collision course

THE relationship between Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson and superstar fullback Jarryd Hayne is at breaking point.

So much so that Hayne's agent Wayne Beavis last night called for a meeting with Anderson to thrash out their differences, which are threatening to derail Parramatta's premiership campaign.

Beavis was furious after he woke up and read yesterday's The Sunday Telegraph headline "Blame Hayne" following the Eels' 10-6 to the Broncos at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday night.

Hayne was so upset he had been singled out for criticism that he stormed out of Parramatta Stadium after the game, boycotting a compulsory team function with fans at the Leagues Club.

The Daily Telegraph can also reveal that Parramatta directors have summoned Anderson to appear before the board tomorrow to explain the team's poor form and the falling-out with Hayne.

After the game Anderson told the press conference: "I think our fullback is learning. He wasn't good tonight in my opinion. Not many people will say it but he was off his game. I think he would have been frustrated at some of the decisions he made."

Obviously disappointed he had been singled out for criticism, Hayne told reporters: "We're just not jelling. It's the coach's job ... it's for him to bring us together and to work that out."

Beavis phoned Eels chief executive Paul Osborne yesterday morning after he had read the Eels match report.

"The first I knew of any issues was when I read the paper this morning, so I rang Ossie and said I need a meeting with your coach," Beavis said.

"I would have thought if the coach had a problem with him, he would have had a meeting to sort it out. Has the coach even spoken to Jarryd about it?

"These things shouldn't be publicly aired. If he's got a problem, let's get in a room and talk about it.

"That's the professional way to handle things.

"I want to sit down with Jarryd and the coach ASAP because it was poor form to do it in the press."

Parramatta insiders say that Anderson's press conference revelations on Saturday night that he was unhappy with his $500,000-a-season fullback had been common knowledge around the club for weeks.

Anderson's relationship problems with Polynesian players date back to his days as New Zealand Warriors coach.

On this occasion, many inside the Parramatta club believe he has done nothing that warrants Hayne to be overly upset. Beavis denies it but there are some in the Eels camp who have been concerned for two months that Hayne's ego is getting out of control now that he is by far the highest paid player at the club and one of the game's most high-profile players.

"Jarryd has changed a lot since last year," one insider said. "There is a genuine concern that all the publicity has got to him."

The Daily Telegraph understands Anderson has spoken to Hayne regularly about his form - or lack thereof - in recent weeks and also his failure to comply with game plans and the general attacking structure that his teammates stick to.

It's an extremely difficult and delicate issue for Parramatta to handle because of Hayne's incredible popularity among the club's army of supporters.

Osborne and Anderson know who supporters will back if it becomes a bigger issue.

The Eels chief executive last night said he was still hopeful Parramatta could recover in time to make the finals.

"Wayne Beavis did ring me this morning and I'm happy to set up a meeting to smooth things over," Osborne said.

"Maybe there have been a few communication problems but it's nothing that doesn't happen at other clubs.

"We've obviously got some issues and we've got to work our way through them. Our defence is the second best in the NRL but our attack is the second worst and it's obviously not jelling.

"We showed last year that we are in a position close enough if good enough but they've got to turn it around very soon."

Probably the most concerning statement of the whole article !

This is a complete beat-up (again).

Beavis reads the headlines and think Anderson said something other than what he said. So he calls Ossy for a meeting - Osborne says "sure let's chat, of course we should do that".

Then the DT get hold of it and insert 2-3 accurate quotes with a whole lot of fluff surrounding it. "sources/ parramatta insiders/ the DT understands" --> all code for "stuff I just made up"

It's not like Ando said anything wrong or accusatory in the press conference against Hayne - he just said that Hayne had an off-game and wouldn't be happy with his own game.

Hayne's quote looks worse - but I'd bet that's out of context - he could've been asked about what he needs to do to fix the attack, or why Parramatta are struggling so much in attack this year, and replied "We're just not jelling. It's the coach's job ... it's for him to bring us together and to work that out." Which would be the correct statement (ie - no comment, coach deals with our team structures)

Funniest line in the article: Anderson's relationship problems with Polynesian players date back to his days as New Zealand Warriors coach.
Grasping at straws much to invent an article?

So Beavis hung up from Osborne and then called the Telecrap to give them a scoop ?

We played crap on Saturday. That is no surprise to anyone including Hayne. This year he is playing flat footed in the backline acting as 5/8. If he wants to play 6 then say so. I'm sure Humble will equip himself at the back.

Otherwise Jarryd should watch some Billy Slater tapes and see what needs to be done if he ever wants to be as good as him.

I agree on the "Beat Up" aspect in regards to yesterday's headline, about "Anderson blaming Hayne", when in reality all Anderson really did was state that Hayne could be going better - he effectively never blamed him.

The problem is, Hayne could well have taken this to heart, having this splashed across the papers, even though the headline was not entirely contextual with the article.

It is not unrealistic that the issue has spiraled from there.

Hope someone can sort some sense into the situation before it blows even more out of proportion.

"Anderson's relationship problems with Polynesian players date back to his days as New Zealand Warriors coach."

The DT have been harping on the last few weeks about getting rid of racism in the game yet bring this up which has absolutely zero to do with the story!!

What are they trying to say, DA doesn't really think JH is playing bad, he just has a problem with him because he's Polynesian?

The biggest concern is that Jarryd's ego has become a problem - even from the start of the season to now.

That much is true.

As for Anderson's quotes in the presser, he was asked about Jarryd and said he didn't play well. Which was true.

The wheels are falling off. Anderson should have picked his words better. He didn't smash Hayne in the press confrence but maybe singling out a player and not the whole team was a dumb move.

Anyone think our year is over? Seems to be a whole lot of disharmony in the team.

I don't think there is disharmony at all. The biggest problem is a lack of play-making options. It was glossed over a bit last season because Jarryd was such a freak. The forwards certainly don't seem to be worried about anything - they were excellent again the other night.

Can anyone confirm if it was actually a compulsory function for the players? There wasn't really much of an advertisement for it. I guess he would be frowned upon for not going when everyone else did, but I'm interested to know if it was compulsory.

IF the beat up is true, I can't say I'm for or against either party.

DA probably shouldn't have singled out Hayne - Hayne doesn't get his hands on the ball, everyone calls for him to get more involved.... Hayne does get his hand on it, people b*tch that he is taking the halves out of the equasion.

Hayne shouldn't have spat the dummy though if it's true. The fans are always supportive of him and would have been disappointed not to see him there.

I agree the forwards are going great. Its a shame really because most of the time we complain about our go forward. But This year has seen the best go forward since .... Well the best that i've seen.

You can thank Poore, Mannah & Horo for that. They are eating up the metres.

Seriously there was NOTHING in it. He speaks about the young kids who are still learning, then says that they (including Hayne) are making the wrong decisions.

That is the frustrating thing about it. Hayne sees the crap headline written in the Telegraph, and has all and sundry in his ear about it; and it appears what started as innocuous comments have been mutated into a very real problem at the club.

Hayne showed flashes of his ability on Saturday night: fighting his way over the try line, the chip and re-gather and where Fui knocked on in the subsequent play.

He also got smashed after taking a high ball a la' Crocker on Brett Stewart in the 07 Grand Final - which would have rattled him.

Unfortunately, I think Hayne is a bit naive and maybe can not see through the bullsh*t that has created this situation.

The thing that worries me the most as pointed out was that DA is of the opinion that we actually have an attacking structure

Beginning to remind me so much of 2002:all that "you got to lose one to win one" talk; how much the team want to win it for each other etc. etc. etc.

I remember at the beginning of 2002 going to a season ticket holders talk by Brian Smith about how much preparation had been done, and how good our chances were; and we didn't make the finals in the end.

I am fearing deja vu this year.
