I heard that Parra signed Daniel Russell from the Panthers. I believe he plays in the centres.

Does anyone know anything about him, ie potential, age etc

There was a rumour that we had - unsure if its true though. He was the next big thing at halfback for Penrith after being signed from our lower grades at one stage. Seemed to fall behind the Rolfe brothers and was shunted to the centres. Bit small for there however he isn't too bad a player. Not someone you would pin huge hopes on though.

Not much more left to say.

He could put on some more size after all Burt did and he is a better player for it.

but yeah, at this stage he'll be good for depth but in both centre and the halves (although he is more a 5/8 then halfback I beleive) he has a lot of players ahead of him

He played 2 first grade games for the panthers this season - one at 5-8th and one as the 7; round 10 & 11 I believe. This was when the Panthers were going through their halves shortage during mid season due to injury and rep games.

He did nothing special from what I recall, but looked solid enough for a someone who got blooded fairly young, still needs to gain some size. Amos Roberts proved to be the better half solution though so he went back to PL where he played in the centres for the majority of the remaing season.

Played three games actually. And in three different positions - centre, 5/8th and half.

I think he did all right when he played. Nothing too flash, but showed that he had a promising future. He's also a very good goalkicker.

I heard he was released... bloody hell, there goes another one!

He was the blondie? If he was he was a solid defender and would be good for depth seeing as he can cover a few positions.

Yeah Id have him anyday. I hope his still eligible for Flegg. Good solid player IMO. More of a 5/8. Cant really lead and direct.

a couple of Panthers supporters I know rate this bloke so I'm expecting some good things from him in either Prems or firsts.

Depth.

Merely depth.

I mean I saw him play Firsts for Penno.

Not bad.

But Ben Smith is a better centre IMO.

And then we have Morris, Perenara and Smith for the halves.

we know too well what a change of clubs can do a player, who's to say this kid won't play his best football with us!..he's only 21 so give him a chance.

He was their next choice halfback after Gower at the start of last season. Rogers and Roberts were used ahead of him, Jono Rolfe moved into his 7 jersey and he was shunted to the centres. Maybe a similar case to some of our young players not doing as well as was expected? New team, new chance...... could be a good buy, if not well we don't really lose much with the other players in the squad.

Apart from the Natural skills and vision, To be a good halfback you need to demand the football, you need to have a strong personality and dare I say be a little arrogant as you will be telling people where to run and where to go. look at Matt head, Joe Williams.

I hear an echo!!

Very similiar line of thought was put forward for Wade McKinnon this time last year.

EG Depth only, Couldn't make 1st grade rabbits etc etc!!

Hunger and passion are the greatest tool you can have.

He has something to prove and by the sounds of it.Being released by the Black Cats maybe all the motivation he needs to succeed elsewhere!!

I for one will not write him off in November the year before!!!

Thats if we have signed him of course!!
