rib cartlidge..which many say can be just as painful as broken ribs but I have the feeling that the recovery time is quicker.

Seems it depends on what kind of cartilage injury he has.
Whether it has been ripped off the bone or something.

So if it is just a general soreness injury he should be back soon.
