Darius Boyd rep player vs Darius Boyd clubman

It has been my long held opinion that Darius Boyd is one of the luckiest sons of bitched to ever pull on a rep jumper. The bloke is a walk up start for QLD and Australia without question, yet never does much of anything during the regular season to demand such status

Another 2 try haul to the anointed one got me looking at his try scoring rates in rep vs club footy.

Since making his debut in 2008, Darius has played 41 rep games for QLD and Oz, scoring a very healthy 31 tries. A scoring rate of 1 try per 1.32 games.

In that same time, he has played 149 club games for the broncos, dragons and knights, for a grand total of 41 tries. A scoring rate of 1 try per 3.63 games.

He's played more than 100 extra club games and only scored an extra 10 bloody tries!

This talentless hack should be paying Inglis a hefty percentage of his salary every year for making him look so good and boosting his salary. The catch-and-put-down tries he keeps feeding him will have surely earned ol' Darius millions in extra cash by the time he hangs up the boots

He was good for the Dragons but wouldn't want him back now. He's been shit the whole time in Poocastle.

Very good finisher and unlike Morris doesn't gift wingers tries in defence. That said I always have said he is overrated as a fullback, more of his better games were on the wing.

I like the gift that Moz gave Boyd in the 74th minute. One of the great Origin tackles.

Boyd is an absolute dud, has been for years. Cannot believe the bloke has 14 Origin tries, the vast majority have been Merritt-esque flops over the line.

I love how after every Origin try (where he just catches the ball and falls over the line after a pass from Thurston or Inglis) he celebrates like it was all him and he just scored a solo try to win the Grand Final.

Like his second last night with Queensland still down a try he does the big boot into the crowd like the game is over. Such a punchable face too

The hooker from the Broncos does that kick thing. But when the defense fall for one dummy after you throw 40 a match I sort of understand. For Darius its just the dikhead factor.

I think he can thank Inglis for alot of his tries for Qld and Australia.

No Inglis at the Knights so you get to see the real Darius.

Interesting thread.

I used to share a similar view but then I watched the likes of Morris and Hayne outside of GI in the Test arena and neither were as good as Boyd was and would often blow chances that Darius would have otherwise scored.

In terms of individual talent, Boyd has never been the greatest but despite coming off as bit of a merkin, the guy has always read the play pretty well and knows his job very well.

As for his club form, he was a good player until he went to the Knights. Unsure what's happened but he clearly isn't putting in and it's really affecting him and his team mates.

But yeah, I think everyone remembers how good he was at the Dragons and it wasn't about the tries he scored but the tries and opportunities he would create - a bit like Karmichael Hunt really.

At the Broncos, the kid was a regular first grader at the tender age of 18 and had a better grasp of the game than most. He did suffer a bit from second year syndrome but really hit his straps in 2008 before he was punted for whatever reason.

.

Boyd 17 games 13 tries
Morris 18 games 23 tries

Would be a fair point if Morris had have played outside of GI in all 18 of those matches.

He didn't though.

Nor does the stat argue the point of the opportunities Morris bombed outside of GI either.

In saying that, I take back what I said about Hayne, I forgot that when he was playing wing for the Aussies, he was usually made to play on the right.

Origin III 2012 was the turning point for Brett.

2011 Morris was still a punchline at representative footy and was constantly singled out by Blues supporters for plays that saw Yow Yeh get a free passage to the ball.

That 12' decider reference is a good point Pete. Brett has looked much more reliable and assured for NSW since he broke his Origin tryscoring drought early in that game. His tackle on Boyd late in last night's game shows how his confidence has grown. Best winger in the world imo.

2010 he looked good on his own but apart from that he's bog average and always has been.

Good point. 2012 in general was a big, big year for Brett. Was excellent for Saints on the wing and at fullback. His game against Melbourne that year where he scored three tries and set up another comes to mind.

But his work in Game III cemented his spot. He should be there for years to come.

As far as his efforts at the knights go, you will not find a worse clubman
He seemed fine at the dragons but goodness me does it phone it in for the knights, it's f**king embarrassing.

I cant imagine how infuriating it must be for their fans to see the effort and f**ks given differential between his work in a QLD jumper to that when he's in the red and blue.
