Just opened this thread for the first time.

Suffered through the first five (of twelve) pages and then gave up.

Neither Clune nor Payne were contracted to Dragons and couldn’t play in our first grade team. And let’s be real, as average as McCrone is these guys re several levels below and would have been murdered in first grade. They were ok-at-best in NYC!
Well there you go, maybe they should have been. Who's job would it be to contract them?

McCrone’s form was actually decent the first 7-8 rounds or so. He almost resembled a FG halfback, and was a big part of why we led the comp. And he led the comp in TA’s about 10 rounds in.

The game against Manly in particular when he laid on a few tries for our right side was impressive.

Unfortunately, after that he regressed back to his reggies form and our season went to shit. Just goes to show the importance of having a functioning No.7.

Hence Hunt should improve us out of sight.

The way our forwards were rolling up the field during those first 7 rounds, any half would have looked good and still McCrone was making elementary mistakes that cost us opportunities.

This would have been the ideal time to bring forward a speedy young halfback.

IMO the rolling up the field was ina large part due to McInnes giving them much better ball than Rein. If they can do that again and give Hunt space he should have a field day. Here’s hoping.:thumbsup:

That and the fact that our opposition early in the season didn’t plan for our power game. Dopey Mary then started telling everyone who’d listen we were going up the middle so teams adjusted and compressed. No forward domination, then effectively season over.

I’m guessing our forwards won’t necessarily have it all their own way this year as teams worked out how we play. Unless somehow we can make defences spread wider, but with Nighty, Lafai and co out in out backline, that likely won’t happen.

No, they shouldnt have been. They simply arent that good. They were average in NYC and average in ISP. McCrone, for all his faults, is several levels above them.
