David Gallop

I was curious to know peoples thoughts on David gallops apology to the media and how it has, in my opinion, only increased the exposure that the story was receiving and if anything given it far too much credibility.

I would also be curious to know wether or not Andrew Dimitriou made a similar apology after 4 corners aired their story on AFL rape allegations. It appears that Andrew has defended his players and basically claimed ignorance to the whole situation

if you haven’t read that story on the link above I would strongly suggest it. It makes of the actions of the sharks and bulldogs players seem like those of choir boys compared to that of the ALF story. I would love to see Dimitriou out and apologising in similar style to gallop offering these girls some help, but I guess that will never happen. All the while I have to sit back in disgust as the NRL and rugby league continue to be the whipping boy of the media while other codes get what seems to be a free pass.

I in no way condone their actions of the players in question legal or otherwise, and I think league players really need to learn how to avoid putting themselves in these situations. But to me the bottom line is that the game will suffer in terms of sponsorship and fans far more greatly than in warranted by theses offences especially considering the alleged offences took place so long ago. I can only hope that one day the media will provide similar scrutiny to all codes with fair and balanced reporting.

The best analogy i can think of is that rugby league is the Democratic Party and the Australian media is fox news.............. Come to think of it Rebecca Wilson does look disturbing similar to Bill O’reilly ..... We dont have a chance.

Gallop is the WORST ceo the NRL has ever had. He adds to the fire against the nrl EVERY TIME. He condemns everyone regardless of any police verdicts or pending investigations.

In this I would like to see us take a leaf out of the AFLs playbook, how hard is it to say "NO COMMENT" ffs.

There are stock answers every AwFuL club seems to provide on any untoward behaviour and no comment is basically what they say every time.

Definitely Gallop is part of the problem in regards to media hysteria, does nothing to put a stop to rampant speculation and what is basically a vendetta against the game.

Yes that's right, because it's so admirable to stick your head in the sand, pretend nothing happened, and let the game go down the toilet!
FFS! He's the only one being a MAN about this situation, facing up to it and doing the right thing.

Some of you people need to take a good hard look at yourselves.

Why ? Because we dont agree with your majesty ? I think it says alot more about the character of every female who wants Matt Johns to be totally crucified and have his entire life destroyed for NOT committing ANY crime. Says a hell of a lot about you lot. Its all about you isnt it ?

Rubbish SC. He's completely reactionary to public pressure, and should be calling out the media on some of the bullsh*t they spew about RL. Instead he always tries to look like the good guy, damaging the game further in the process.

Lmao. And that post says sooooooooo much about you. I don't want Matty Johns "crucified", I actually quite liked the bloke, but he's not being a man about the situation! Gallop is trying to clean up this mess in a way that is just and admirable and right. Sweeping it under the carpet is not going to change anything! He's all about change, and moving forward. Denying it and keeping it in the dark would only let the situation fester.

I don't think that's what he's doing. He's a smart guy, he's trying to save the image of this game. We need strong leadership and that's what he is trying to provide.
Can you imagine what the media would do if he offered a "no comment" and walked away from it? He'd be ripped apart.
He's standing up to be counted and I for one think that is the right thing to do.

I actually think that Gallop's on a hiding to nothing here.

AFL hasn't been scrutinized anywhere near as much as league which is why Demetriou was allowed to get away with non answers.

After years of allegations, Gallop would have been accused of avoiding or condoning the acts by not speaking out against them and that would have further reflected badly on RL as he's the CEO.

Gallop is making himself look much better than AFL's CEO by addressing the issue and saying something about it publicly.

No CEO in League's history has presided over as much drama as Gallop.

I agree with your sentiments.

But I honestly can't see any reasonable position whereby he could NOT say anything about it.

And saying the AFL doesn't, is completely irrelevant to the current discussion.

Well said. Just because the AFL isn't fair dinkum about it doesn't mean the NRL shouldn't.

Look he is damned if he does, damned if he doesnt.

Honestly who would be the CEO of the NRL?

I am surprised he has last this long as the CEO (and would appear still has hair, albeit alot more grey). Incredibly tough gig, no doubt about.

For the constant gallop baggers out there (and I admit I have bagged him in the past), when has there ever been a ARL / NRL CEO we have all loved and thought, this man is great for our game...

Never has been, nor will there ever be one.

No CEO in League's history has presided over as much drama as Gallop.

If you read any reactions other than from the fanboys in here, it is almost universally praising Gallop's handling of the situation.

I reckon he must wake up every Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning dreading looking at the news and wondering what new player atrocity he's going to have to deal with that week.
