Yes, its not often a head of the RFL is well regarded by fans but he was one of the best. the 2013 RLWC was still one of the best imo . The ashes tours and international game generally during his reign of the 80's and early 90's remain the pinnacle of the more modern IRL eras imo.

He grew the game from a very low point in the 70s. He was a great administrator also was on special comments on TV where his knowledge and enthusiasm for the game came through. RIP
