DCE tells Manly he is leaving at end of season: Fairfax

I think it was 1.5m for 2years.
Yeah I think he made the decision as he doesn’t want to tell them he’s retiring in sept and leave them in the lurch for a half in 2026

That would make sense if the Manly power brokers didn’t just offer him a new deal on live TV. Surely if his reasoning was not stuffing Manly around last minute he would have already communicated that to them. Manly offering the last minute deal makes it sound like DCE hasn’t communicated his decision to them before going to the media. At the very least there’s been a huge breakdown in communication there.

Manly doing the right thing. He'll be 37 this time next year. I'd be mortified if my club offered him $1m+ for multiple years

He’s one of the few really top halves left in the comp, and definitely the best they’re going to have at the club for a very long time. I dunno, if it’s me I’m willing to cop a hit to the cap for a year if he suddenly drops off rather than risking a Souths and Reynolds thing. DCE at 50% is still better than Brooks.

Quite staggering the developments in this story tonight.

I would think everything that I have heard is pretty above board except for one thing...the extremely unusual move of a club ceo to phone a tv station and basically do contract negotiations on live tv. It is a very odd and desperate move.

But he's still top 3 halfbacks in the comp. Does it really matter how many birthday cakes he's had?

And who else is available? At a push, if the stars align, they could push for a premiership with 1-2 key signings and some of their young star backs continuing to develop, and they're much more likely to do that with DCE than whoever is now going to play 7. Luke Brooks sure ain't the guy to step in.

I like how Buzz theorises there is a relationship issue with Siebold because he wasn't invited to the wedding. You don't need to invite everyone you work with Buzz.

I've always liked DCE and even at his age he is a top 5 half in the NRL. I think it's media BS linking him to the roosters like every other player that becomes available but personally I'd welcome him with open arms for the last two years of his career. I had the same opinion of Ben Hunt and DCE is an even better option.

He’s going to another club and they are pissed off.
Yes I don’t buy DCE’s bullshyte.

He’s a greedy opportunistic farker like his manager.

You’d think something is definitely in the pipeline.

For him to say there’s nothing and then if something comes out this week or the next it will show how much of a liar he is.

His exact words “He just wants to focus on playing footy this year and deal with it at the end of the year. “

Let’s see how this plays out.

DCE walking away from $1.5m a year, going on Channel 9 to tell his side of the story, etc... it all stinks Roosters to me. They'll be angling for a Cronk-like premiership tilt.

It would have been nice to keep Humphries if this was going to happen lol.

Seems kind of messy and legacy ruining. Which is apparently the only Manly does club legend departures unless you are Steve Menzies lol.
