No chance. He’s more intelligent than your average footballer and that makes him a polarising figure in the dressing room. Just like Stuey MacGill in the Aus cricket team. It’s just a final “up yours” to the management who hasn’t paid him the respect commensurate with his achievements.

He has been at Manly for 15 seasons, if they didn't respect him do you think he would have lasted that long at the club.

To continue the cricket metaphor the umpires are ready to remove the bails and Cherry is about to raise the cherry above his head to the applause of the crowd. But management didn’t applaud.

I hope it is the Roosters but also, we have to be the favourites:

- It was said on Fox League a few weeks back that if DCE were to leave Manly it'd be for another Sydney team. Apparently DCE and his family are very settled on the northern beaches of Sydney which would eliminate the Dolphins. St George might have a shot but with a 4 hour round trip to make training every day that'd probably require a move also. Moore Park is only about 25-30 minutes away from DCE.

- The Roosters have been clearing salary cap space for months in a very weird way. The media and other fans theorise that we're 3-4 million dollars under the cap and there are no real big money targets coming off contract for next year in positions we need except for DCE (And Robson before we signed him)

- If DCE is motivated by another premiership then out of the Dolphins and Dragons we're the best choice. Teddy, Walker, DCE and Robson is a premiership winning spine and if he signed on we'd only be about 1-2 players away from a premiership in my opinion.

---

My completely uneducated theory on it is that the Roosters missed out on Ben Hunt, asked DCE if he'd like to come over and he's said yes. I would guess that the Roosters have offered him much more than 750k a season, a chance to potentially win a premiership and to not have to move and disrupt his family, that was hopefully enough to get him to sign with us.

I think the Roosters will look to replicate 2018-2019 which is why they've been clearing so much room. I reckon they're going to try and get 3 key players over to the club with Robson being the first, DCE being the second and one of Cobbo/Staggs being the third.

I might be made to look a bit silly in a few months when he signs with the Broncos or something so don't take this as gospel, just a hopeful Roosters fan with an opinion.
Using that theory the dastardly dogs must be a chance. Puppet master Gus learnt from Uncle Nick remember…
A team coming into a Premiership window, in Sydney, and just needing a top halfback to steer them around in the big games.

One thing we can draw conclusions from IMO is that lately Robbo and Politis have come out pretty quickly to quash the rumours of anyone being linked to the club (95% of players off contract), see Dylan Brown as an example.

Radio silence so far on DCE

Yeah the Dogs would certainly fit the criteria, not heaps far from the northern beaches and have the players to win a comp, my only question is if the Dogs could fit a million dollar player (Plus?) under the cap without releasing a lot of players themselves?

Let the Roosters take DCE, it won't make them much better.

When they took Cronk it was the final piece of a premiership team. DCE is just adding a jenga piece to a jigsaw with 5 pieces missing

The Roosters of 2024 probably were a world class halfback and hooker away from winning a comp, that's why Penrith and the Storm have always kicked us around in recent times, they had incredibly dominant spines and ours was very meh.

For 2026 we're probably a good halfback, centre and prop from being a premiership favourite right now so DCE could be a missing puzzle piece along with a couple of other free agents.

What I will say is if the Roosters don't sign DCE I can't see them getting close to winning a comp in the next 3-5 years.
