The Roosters of 2024 probably were a world class halfback and hooker away from winning a comp, that's why Penrith and the Storm have always kicked us around in recent times, they had incredibly dominant spines and ours was very meh.

For 2026 we're probably a good halfback, centre and prop from being a premiership favourite right now so DCE could be a missing puzzle piece along with a couple of other free agents.

They are a better team with DCE but its the fitness that is a key issue. They don't really go with Penrith (No one does really). Even as far back as 2020 the Roosters were only staying in the game for 15-20 minutes before the wheels fell off.

And no stats but the Roosters forwards get suspended and HIA'd way too much. I'd describe them as reckless. I don't think they have the right approach.

DCE is quality. But he’s not nearly as good as Cronk was.

The problem with this is that Cronks contribution to those comps is overrated. After ANZAC day 2018 he was labelled a bust of a signing and didn't even play any meaningful part in either the prelim or GF.

Over those 2 season he wasn't close to the best player in the team (that would be Sir Ted). A legendary player for sure but in the miopic view of 18/19, he was above average at best. His biggest contributions were leadership and experience.

They also had a better squad around Cronk. So no it won't be the same.

Fox said only a few weeks ago that the Sharks were ‘shopping’ Ronaldo for next year, despite the fact he was off contract (so the Sharks wouldn’t need to ‘shop’ him), and the Sharks were desperate to keep him. In reality, when that story was printed, they Sharks and Ronaldo had already actually agreed terms and the contract was just going through legal.
I think those at Fox hear about player managers testing the waters for what could potentially be on offer, and present that as ‘the club is shopping player X’, when in reality, the club has nothing to do with it, it’s just player managers doing their thing. I guess it’s entirely possible the player managers tell them some little fibs, for instance, maybe Fox heard that DCE’s manager had been asking clubs for the best offers, Fox speak to agent and the agent says ‘well the club have told me to shop him around’.
Either way, it’s definite that the Sharks weren’t shopping Ronaldo, as Fox reported, and I think it’s highly unlikely Manly have been shppping DCE around - they want and need him,

The more reports I've heard over the week, the more I think DCE with his management team are doing a bit of a screw job on Manly. Manly were definitely blindsided on Monday night, which led to that panic phone call by Mestrov.

All roads are leading to the Roosters. Im sure some sort of informal agreement has been done with an offer much bigger than Manly's.

This will not work as well as the Cronk stint. I kinda doubt he'll do a last year Thurston and hit the wall but you never quite know.

DCE is a quality player but I think the media are (predictably) blowing smoke up his ass just because he is an experienced half entering the open market at the time when experienced halves are very much at a premium. If there were say 2 or 3 other halves north of 150+ games on the market at the same time, it would be just another day at the office; and the memory of the Reyno/Souffs angle being still fresh on people's minds adds a bit more juice to the story.

Can you really say Teddy and DCE are past it though? They both played Origin last year, both played finals as spine players (Teddy as part of a top four side) and both would've been picked for Australia if Australia weren't picking younger players to prepare for a World Cup. Both players are still top 5 in their positions in the comp as well.

They're both older players but "past it" isn't the way I'd describe them. Walker will probably play for QLD one day and the Blues number 9 jersey will be between Api and Robson this year.
