Bluey on now talking about the goings on

Is disappointed with Chalmers, but his main concern seems to be not with Graham Lowe the person, but the position that he has been placed in. Has said that it has changed the whole dynamics of things and isn't how he likes to work, an example being Tony Kemp added as selector without consultation. Now saying that with someone like Lowe that makes a lot of big statements in the media it was inevitable they would clash

Is saying that as a coach he can't find himself answering to another coach, and will never work for him as a coach, but may for some others

Chalmers told him on 7th May that he could coach both Leeds and the Kiwis, and was only yesterday that Chalmers informed him that that was no longer the case and the residency rule would be enforced

Conclusion from what i have seen so far, Chalmers is an a grade ****.

Refused to turn up to mediation between the 2 parties to resolve the issue

Talks broke down yesterday at the meeting

1 hour later Chalmers phoned him and informed him of the upgraded offer, which was about the same time it was released publically. Offer was about double, and he felt insulted coz he isn't in it for the money. What Chalmers didnt release publically was that the offer meant that all the clauses in dispute would be dropped from the contract

Bluey ended by making a plea to all the fans, and senior players, to basically not carry on too much, and to give full backing to whoever the new coach is and support him all the way.

If you missed the interview hope that gives some sort of insight into what was said

heard that interview also.
Funny thing is, is that Chalmers didnt seem to know what was in the terms of Blueys contract.
Blueys gone for the money, and wants to be a hands on coach.
He's got both so good on him.
This NZRL board aint gonna go far before there's a rift.
I say, Its only a matter of time and Chalmers will be chucked out.

Chalmers is the board...with added sycophants. You could see what was going to happen with his initial appointment and maintaining his position. He wont get booted and he knows it. He has the media-savvy of Mugabe.

You have to be fair to Bluey, he has his whanau and himself to think about. If he thinks he has done the right thing, then undoubtedly he has.

Pretty much is covering what many were saying over the past few days, although a little more towards the Chalmers/Lowe combo rather than just one of them. Hugh McGahan was on Prime news yesterday, criticising both of them and suggesting that 'lucritive deal' offered is around the 50 000 mark. While RL in NZ on an International Level is not rich, that's just pathetic.

Good luck to Bluey; I hope he takes the Leeds Position and does well for himself & family professionally and financially. It's a mark of the man to call on fans and senior players not to cause a stink and support the next coach too. Which being a fan of RL and the Kiwis, I will.

However, the same cannot be said for the NZRL hieracy, which do not seemed to have learnt anything whatsoever in the past few years and continue with shoddy unprofessional management styles. I thought after last year there would be a massive change. They have a long way to go yet. Good luck to the new Coach dealing with these clowns. He's gonna need it

To be honest i think even freeman could run this piss pot NZRL better. Its time to step into the professional era my friends. The failings of the NZRL that stick out as far as im concerned are :

* The lack of communication within the NZRL
* The poor use of the NZ A system
* The lack of communication between the NZRL and kiwi super league players
* The inability of the NZRL to make contact with, and secure, australian based kiwi talent. I have it on very good authority that Chase Stanley has not even been sounded out yet, no doubt the aussies have already got in his ear.

Graham Norton should be bought into the mix, with the sole purpose being keeping up communications with our players and sounding out new talent within NRL clubs.

A proper business manager needs to be bought in, someone who has possibly tasted success running a NPC / Super 14 team - if need be an australian.

Our former kiwi greats need more input into the NZRL. Nothing inspires more than dealing with people who have been there done that and have that certain 'mana' - as opposed to dealing with clowns like chalmers.

The Kiwis are no different from the Panthers - if we look like were taking the piss and an outfit of clowns on a slppery slope down then no one is going to want to pledge their allegence to us and pull on the black jersey.

And now we are faced with this fantastic situation of having to pick a national coach has hasnt coach above bartercard cup level. What are the chances of this coming off twice in a row ? Slim to none.

*Check the NZRL website. It has the latest newsletter and 2006 annual report.

*I thought Bluey's job was to monitor overseas player's via games tapes and trips overseas to assess them.

*What's the point of appointing selector's if they can't relay information about overseas based players. That's right, it was Darrell Williams who suggested that Nathan Fein should be selected and left Sel Bennett out to dry.

I'm by no means sticking up for the NZRL, but in fairness like to base my objective views on real facts and not suggestive speculation.

How is it that Hugh McGahan knows for sure that $50,000 was offered to Bluey. This piece of information comes from a person tied up with the North harbour rugby pokie scam.

Did Bluey not ask whether he could coach Leeds and the Kiwis at the same time and Chalmers said yes, but later said that he could not?

We do not know whether Bluey at this stage had made his mind up to go to Leeds. We do not know whether Bluey wants to have both cakes and to eat them both.

I for one don't trust Bluey's motives. He's using the media for his own benefit to offload the angst to the NZRL.

Bluey is the man who ripped the guts out of Hibiscus Coast a few years back by taking all their key players to Mt Albert. There was a lot of ill feelings towards Bluey from club members.

You may find that Bluey is one of these coaches that is all about himself.

I don't think that is really true because every article I have read is he is not leaving because of the money. if he really was just thinking of himself money would be the motivating factor for him leaving but it's not.the biggest thing for bluey was the changes made to his exisiting contract.I have no doubt that having to report to lowe was proabbly the biggest one bluey didn't like. piss poor from the NZRL still in the amateur days when everybody else went professional years and years ago. a coach like bluey doesn't come around often and you would think they would have bent over backwards to keep him instead of basically giving him the shaft. good luck to bluey and to the NZRL thanks for nothing and ruining league in nz.

How can you not be though? It's the loveable "working class man" that speaks his mind, does his job for the love of it and has the respect of players and fans alike vs. an organisation who's management is shady at best. It doesn't surprise me at all that people are behind McCelenan whether they are right or wrong.

Thing is, most of us really don't know. We're just working off what the media has told us.

'Bluey' has come out of this pretty good though. He gets to go work at Leeds on big money but everyone thinks he is the one that has been shafted by the NZRL so it doesn't look like he has sold out. Which I don't think is the case really.

maybe thats because he's the only coach to ever achieve something against the Aussies. Maybe its because credibility wise he's up against the NZRL who have none.

Actually Lowe acheived at least as much... but 20 subsequent years of shooting his mouth off has kinda made us forget that theres a great footy brain behind the hot air.
