Dean Widders?

We'll see in time whether you are right, however I would suggest that Brian Smith wont wait around to see whether you are right and will spend up Joey's salary cap cash pretty quickly in stock outside of the club.

There have been plenty of juniors that have been hyped as the next big things that haven't cut the grade in the long run. I'm certainly not saying you are wrong - I hope you are right, but we have a long history of not picking the right juniors to let go (or were not quick enough to re-sign them).

Why am I talking about Kurt? Try looking at the post you choose to rip me a new one about...I suggested replacing Kurt with Dean if Kurt goes. I said nothing about plurals, I said nothing about a "spree".

The juniors - I'm suggesting we buy for positions we need now, and allow the talent to float to the top - on merit, not just because they are juniors and we need to keep them feeling all fuzzy inside. If they can't cut the mustard here and there are better players in front of them, let them go. We really need to get the identification process right first though - and we have mucked that part up alot in the past.

My attitude - you started it mate. You tend to bring those sort of reactions on with the tone of your posts. Treat others with respect and you'll get some back in return...

My tone is upfront, if i don't agree i'll let you know. Nothing personal but this isn't the fairy forum for group masturbation sessions.

You seem to do the same, don't be hypocritical.

I'll agree to disagree with you here, i think you'll be impressed with our home grown team in a couple of years - Johns money will probably go to signing one player and upgrading contracts of emerging stars.

I personally don't think we'll sign anyone, we are deadset chocker block full of talent in all grades.

Hopefully Smith see's this and comes here with the intention to continue the development of all that talent and not to sweep a broom through the club, it's not like we need it.

Even with Carney departing we have Seage, Tighe, Cooper etc ready to step up. No need to sign Widders IMO.

Excellent post RBK about the only thing I'd be after would be a decent front rower for next season and even that if our current crop steps up is a waste of time.

I would like to see Widders here. There was talk in yesterdays paper that Morris is a certainty to follow Smith here, now that I wouldn't agree with, I wouldn't rate Morris any better than Kidley, Widders however can be a real impact game breaker from the bench. I too see the combo of Walsh, and Mullen being our future halves, and if Johns can get through another season next year, we may well see that combination in premier league next season, with Mullen and Walsh occasionally playing first grade when required. So yes Kidley and Carney gone (I think from his managers tone recently) Kidley will be too expensive for us this time around Widders would fit nicely.

Come to think of it a centre would be alright as well just for added depth.

Whats happened to Cooper this year?
Dustin? He moved to the backrow in Premier League, but got injured and won't be back til round 10

You talk as though I have no idea what happens below first grade...I'm impressed with some of the players we have down there at the moment and agree we have some real stars down there but we have to sign the right ones - we have never been able to do that at all.

As for what we need - come 2008 we will need a quality halfback pending how Walsh goes (and whether he is prepared to hang around that long). We have all seen how directionless the team is without a quality half and Mullen won't be able to do it all himself (yet). Backs are something we have plenty of - we don't really need any more Centres or Wingers.

However what we need now is someone who can cover backs and forwards - we sadly lacked this type of role last year and I don't think Riley Brown is the guy for that job. If Kurt goes, then Widders would certainly fill that role.

He is the impact player we need on the bench. In a full strength team, we will have Reynoldson, Woolnough and Tolar on the bench. All are workhorses. Widders can provide that spark we need.

All clubs need to refresh their playing list to some extent otherwise complacency creeps in. Whilst we need to look after our top juniors, we need to balance that with bringing in new faces to the club. Widders would be an asset.
