Debuting a Player in the Finals?

Just thought I'd post here to check, as I couldn't find anything in the F7s Rules to cover it.

Newcastle are in a bit of a bind with regards to player numbers at the moment, seems the F7s finals are clashing with the real world for the majority of our team. As a result, I was planning to recruit a mate to play in the finals (and possibly beyond that into next season). Is this allowed? Or can we not add players to our roster at this point in the season?

As long as your player is a member of LU, and will fit in under your player limit, he should be fine to play.

You look to have a full roster but I can see there are a few players who haven't played a match, so are looking to release some of these players?

I can't see any rules against it - as long as your squad does not exceed 15 players.

Although adding a new player before the finals - in the player movements thread in F7s mgt - would sidestep claims of rings ins. But if you're talking about bringing new players into the F7s, then I say go for it. Just make a note of it in the players movement thread.

One thing that concerns me is the recruitment of players from other teams who are not competing in the finals. I would argue against this as not being in the spirit of the competition.

Definitely needs to be clarified during the annual off-season review.

im against the ring-in situation come finals, i mean a team could just about wrap the crown up if they brought in Jessbass and Thickos who wont be participating in finals 7's, as willow said, thats not in the spirit of the game.

But if its a new player, then fair game i recon so long as your under the player cap, i dont think there should ever be in a position where new, keen and interested players are turned away

In fairness, to CWBush, he is talking about 'debuting' a player. So as long someone is released, I can't see a problem.

It is a shame...we have done really well fielding a team all season. It is just an insane time for alot of us.

Yeah, the player wouldn't be a ring in from a team not competing in the finals. I agree with raider and Willow in their argument that it would be unsportsmanlike. Besides, we've got our own thickos/jesbass equivalents - so we're all good there :p

(No disrespect to the above, obviously we'd love both of you at Newcastle).

To answer Willow's question, I've got a handful of players I could 'drop' if a new player did join up. As you say, we've had a few who haven't had a run in 2006.
