This actualy is pretty good. I'm sure you all got it but I'll post it again and we can discuss things on this thread.

Appointment of General Manager.

The Newtown RLFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Keen as the
club's General Manager. Doug will officially take up his duties in
mid-January and has already made a tremendous impression with his enthusiasm
and drive. Born and raised in St. Peters, Doug is a former Newtown junior
representative who played grade football with the Canterbury-Bankstown club,
and then had a lengthy stint as a player and administrator with the NSW
Police Rugby League. He had a distinguished period of service in the NSW
Police Force, and has worked in more recent times with the ARL Foundation
and with Wests-Tigers. Among his many extra-curricular activities he has
been a grade referee and touch judge with the NSWRL Referees Association,
and is an accomplished auctioneer! Doug brings a wealth of top-level
administrative expertise and experience to Newtown, as well as an obvious
determination to help his old heartland club grow and prosper.

Doug will also have the assistance of Jenny Grosvenor from early February
onwards, when she will take up the position of Administration Officer. Jenny
made a great impression in working with Newtown for most of the 2004 season.
She has worked in human resources and in the wool processing industry, and
she holds an Honours degree in Agricultural Science from the UNSW.

Coaching Appointments.

The redoubtable Colin Murphy will again have charge of the Sydney Airport
Jets Premier League team, as the club moves into the 2005 season as the
official feeder team to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

The club is pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Matterson as the
Newtown Jim Beam Cup coach for 2005. Greg has an impressive record of
achievement as a player, player-coach and non-playing coach with the Camden,
Picton, Thirlmere, Crookwell and Ryde-Eastwood clubs over a period spanning
some twenty years. He also had a successful stint coaching in the NSW Police
competition. Greg comes from famous Rugby League stock, as his brother Terry
is well-known as a Broncos, Roosters and NSW State of Origin player, and who
is now on the Raiders coaching staff.

Greg's Assistant Coach is a well-known Jets identity in Luke Ellis, who has
played more than 100 games with the club since joining Newtown in 1997. Luke
has gained excellent hands-on experience in working with the ARL Foundation
and the NSW Rugby League Academy at Narrabeen, and is super keen to get
involved in seniors coaching. He holds degrees in Sports Science and
Education from the UNSW.

Farewell to Craig Field.

Half-back maestro Craig Field, after two superb seasons with Newtown, heads
down to the banks of the fabled Murrumbidgee River as he takes up a
captain-coaching appointment for 2005 with the Wagga Brothers club in the
strong Group Nine competition. The Newtown club wishes Craig, his wife Ellen
and their young family all the best as they head down Riverina way and to a
new country lifestyle. Watch out for those seven-foot tiger snakes down
along the river bank, Fieldsy!

The New Gymnasium.

Long-serving Newtown Director and sponsor Terry Rowney has done many
outstanding things for the Jets over a period of more than twenty-five
years, but he has now surpassed all his previous efforts. Terry has made
available property in Marrickville for the club's use that is rapidly being
transformed into a magnificent gymnasium complex for our players. I
personally believe this is one of the most significant advances in our
club's 97-year history, and it is certain to ensure that our teams will more
than match their opponents in every aspect of physical preparation. Head
conditioner Dennis "Rowdy" Yates, Newtown's clubman of the year in 2004, is
overseeing the players' preparation in a thoroughly professional manner.
Dennis, Terry and Premier League manager Mick Dabela were instrumental in
obtaining a complete set of weights early in 2004, which is now housed in
what will be a veritable powerhouse for this club in future years. Popular
audio-visual officer John Trad is also playing a major role in the
administration and refurbishment of the gymnasium complex.

The Boys Are Back In Training.

Head Coach Col Murphy has had a hand-picked squad back in training since
late October, both at the previously-mentioned gymnasium complex and at
Henson Park. The boys are hard at it four days a week, and will be ready for
the season of their lives in 2005. The association with the Sharks is off to
a great start, with several of their 2004 players in training with our boys
and all fitting in perfectly. 2004 Jets James Stosic, Phillip Leuluai and
Clifford Manua are all said to be training the house down with their new
team-mates at Toyota Park. Big Cliff was last seen sporting a Roy
Asotasi-style corn-row hair-do!

2005 Trial Dates.

Saturday, 29th January 2005: Open trials starting at 10.00am at Henson Park.

Saturday, 5th February 2005: Newtown v Western Suburbs at 4.30pm and 6.00pm
at Henson Park. These games will be preceded by Wests v Cronulla trials
starting at 1.30pm.

Saturday, 12th February 2005: Newtown v North Sydney at 4.30pm and 6.00pm at
Henson Park, with the main game being the first leg of the Frank Hyde Shield
for 2005.

Saturday, 19th February 2005: Newtown v Group 11 at Pioneer Oval, Parkes at
5.00pm. This game will be the main curtain-raiser to the Roosters-Parramatta
NRL trial match. (See below about the transport option for getting to this
game.)

Saturday, 26th February 2005: Newtown v Newcastle at a time and Newcastle
venue to be announced.

The NSWRL Premier League competition will start on the second weekend of
March 2005.

Take The Southern Aurora To Parkes.

The opportunity exists for Newtown supporters to book out the Southern
Aurora tour train (at a cost per person considerably less than that paid for
a return air fare to Parkes and motel accommodation). Contact Annie Mustow
at Labelcraft (95500999) by this Friday if you are interested, as the train
has to be booked well in advance.

Well Done To Paul Shiel and the Junior Jets.

Paul Shiel and his team of goers at the Junior Jets turned on a magnificent
presentation afternoon for the Junior Jets youngsters at Luna Park several
Saturdays ago. This event drew a huge roll-up of junior players and their
parents, and attracted great praise for the quality of the event and the
generosity of the awards made to all the players. Paul, well done to you and
your team of workers for the phenomenal job you're all doing in running our
junior division. This young club (formed in 2003) is said to be the fastest
growing junior club in Sydney, with the number of teams increasing from 6(in
2003) to 20 (in 2004) to a projected 25 in 2005, with most of these
youngsters all newcomers to the Rugby League game. This really is junior
development at its very best, and Doug Keen and Jenny Grosvenor intend to
assist the Junior Jets with more juniors and schools development in 2005.
Last year we distributed Henson Park passes to 14,000 students at 43
schools, and we intend to significantly increase those figures next year.
Our major sponsors Sydney Airport and the Petersham RSL Club gave us
enormous assistance in this expanding program.

Thanks to You All For a Great 2004.

Thanks to everybody - the members, supporters, sponsors, players, staff and
officials who all helped make 2004 a year of considerable advancement for
the Newtown club. 2005 has exciting prospects - our association with the
Sharks, the new gym, refurbishment of the dressing rooms at Henson Park, new
coaching staff and the continued enthusiasm and self-belief of everybody
connected with Australia's oldest and boldest Rugby League club.

All that remains to be said is - a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to
all of you!

I don't get it.

I'm not being offensive when I say spam. Don't get me wrong. The emails we get are quite good. I don't want to tar Bumper with the same brush that standard spammers receive. Not once have I been offered a penis extension via the Jets. It's just that I prefer to get news with my ads rather than an email which is a total advertisement.

I went to the Newtown Jets Gym yesterday. What a ripper of a place it is.

It was a run down warehous/factory but it is in the process of renovation. Even the small amount of work we (those that got there on time) did yesterday came up a treat.
