Current holders of the Nordic Cup (Denmark) have had to pull out due to not being able to field enough players.

Denmark pulls out of Nordic Cup fixture.

As some of you might have heard, our preparations for the Nordic Cup game against Norway on Saturday ran into difficulty on Monday.

We set ourselves a deadline of 17.00 today to get things back on track. With great regret, we have to accept that we have failed to gather the 13 players necessary to start the game. We fell one short - 12. As a result we will not go ahead with the fixture. We've lost our title of Nordic Cup champions without even kicking off in 2016.

I know things happen to international fixtures but that's really surprising. I thought the Danes had enough players to make up their international team. They've been playing for almost 5-10 years now and i thought they would have had enough for an international team.

They could have just travelled with the 12 and played against Norway in a longer 9s game or something at least.

Denmark perhaps need to concentrate on their domestic scene. Is there a local comp?
That's the real problem, they don't. They had two teams at one stage but one has since folded and the other appears to be on life support. Their win of the Nordic Cup really gave a false indication of where each of the countries is at. Norway, domestically are by far the strongest with 6 teams in their comp, Sweden who had 4 last year have cut back to 3, and Denmark's domestic scene has been dormant now for years. It's a shame, but hopefully this is not the end of them and I hope there are people there determined to turn things around.

Shame about Denmark, but really, if you can't get together a national team, well, that more or less means there is not even one rugby league team in the entire country. Not a good thing.

Really sad to hear about this. It's tough. Hopefully they can re-organise but it is a few steps back here.

Their main guy (who also used to regularly post on here) left Denmark about a year or two ago, I think that's when things started to go downhill unfortunately.

Same old story in many countries, the whole thing is being carried by passionate, hard-working volunteers, but at the end of the day, need to make their own tough decisions and need to take care of their families first.

Surely the prerequisite for being able to field a national team is to actually have a viable domestic competition?

Otherwise, who does the "national" team represent?
