Wallace was great in his one first grade game.

He is a first receiver not a second receiver though and I hope Elliot sees that. His passing vs Canberra last season was pinpoint and constantly gave Preston room to weave his magic.

His kicking game is also very good and has quite a bit of distance so he may be a better option than Gower next year as first choice on the sixth tackle.

All that said I think Trindall has leap frogged him. Trindall is the best player in the entire Premier League and constantly tears opposition teams appart which is an achievement considering some of the nevilles playing in the team.

what happened to brett howland? I'm just curious as a sharks fan

still around. I am fairly sure that his season this year has been injury plagued though and also seem to remember some discussion that to this point he hadn't been offered a contract for next season.

Brett Howland has been injury prone from the time he joined the Panthers.

It would not be could business to offer him a new contract as he has been limited to a few premier league appearances this season and age is against him.

Wallace has some issues in defence and the modern 5/8 has to be able to do more than simply be an effective passer of the ball.

Ideally, succession planning involves bringing in a player who is at least the equal of the player whom he is replacing. Notwithstanding, Preson's defensive problems, albeit defending in the wrong position, Wallace is nowhere near the player Preston is and therefore IMO we would be going backwards is Wallace is to be our starting 5/8.

As we have not recruited a 5/8 to date and nor are we likely too, Wallace remains a possibility along with Trindall and perhaps one or two of the younger ones.

Hopefully Elliot reads my posts, and will move Gower to 5/8th and Aiton to be the starting half back.

If he is reading your posts he will soon cease to do so as your credibility suggesting Aiton should be starting half is seriously diminished.

Everyone thought the Storm would struggle this year after losing Orford,Bell and Kearns. It was considered a no brainer that because they had lost their star 1/2 back and replaced him with an inexperienced unknown that they would struggle to make the 8 this year.

With some astute coaching and team harmony they have shown just what is achievable.

It must be remembered that they have had Slater and Crocker out suspended for much of the season,Greg Inglis out for an extended period,Scott Hill out suspended-injured and dropped due to the good form show by his replacements and have had many other players out with minor injuries or because of rep duty.

Sometimes the home supporters judgements are clouded thru rose coloured glasses.

I have a very good friend who is a passionate Parra fan but he lives in Glenmore Park and attends each and every home Panthers games.

This friend has has a good knowledge of rugby league and while he doesn't often see the Flegg games he is always in the ground for the Premier League fixtures.

His judgement is unbiased.

A couple of weeks back while having a beer with this friend in the paceway I asked my mate which players from the Premier League will make it in the top flight.

His honest response was there were no obvious standouts in our premier league. He indicated he thought the kid with the red hair (Alex Ranieri) may come on in a year or two. He didnt know the kids name.

The moral to the story is Panther fans have ' rose ' coloured glasses and we dream, we hope the likes of Wallace, Blair, Newton, Moors etc etc are going to develop into top flight players. In reality, the majority of the current premier league are average premier league players and will not progress into the top grade.

Sure they may be one or two who do make the step up but in the main our future lies with those players currently playing in the Flegg/Ball.

Lock is no longer as specialist position.

Lock - Second Row are all back rowers. The modern game involves the front rowers taking hit ups one out of the ruck while the back rowers take hit ups two of the ruck generally recieving passes from the half/five eight.

In the Panthers game plan, which as we are aware if fairly basic, what difference would it make if Trent played second row other than the fact he occupies a different position in the meaningless scrums?
