Its not often i praise the administators down under but this weekend as been excellent..

The pacific tests doubleheader will sell itself next year so we don't have to worry about that...

But how about a curtain raiser to the anzac test? Lebabnon v cook islands for example...

But yeah all in all good work...i even liked how the pacific test logo incorperated the RLIF "rugby ball" a nice little touch that..

Mate the City vs Country is the curtain raiser for the ANZAC Test..

Lol but in all honesty I'd love to see more international games, and no not some phony PI Team.

We could have a quadruple header next year starting with Vanuatu v Solomon Islands, Niue v Cook Islands and then the two games we had this year.

how about playing PI games in the respective islands to full houses to actually develop the developing nations for once?

I have the same question,

I'd love to see them play games at home

Im guessing the largest stadium in PI is 3-5,000 ?

Also, televising the game would be difficult and expensive.

I'm sorry, I agree with you on a few things but the Women's Anzac Test "has" to be the curtain raiser to the main game every year. Anyone who knows what is going on with Women's sport will understand this.

We have got other sports that can send their women rugby players to the Olympics we have to develop this part of the sport - including the Women's World Cup. We can't lose this crucial element to our sport.

I am all for extra games but they need to be standalone or part of something else. Perhaps a two-day festival at one venue with 3-4 tests there. Encourage the US to get involved and, as you say, Lebanon.

agreed

most other games can draw a crowd by themselves and no one is going to go watch kiwis oz just cause city country or something is the pregame.

city country should be played out in the country to spread the game. womens to be the curtain raiser to the anzac test

Good point, It is essential these nations play at home.

PNG's new Stadium holds 18k, fijis national ANZ stadium in Suva holds 19k, Apia park in Samoa holds 15k and the national stadium in Tonga holds 10k.

I hope we keep this 'rep weekend' in the future as an opportunity to play more internationals.

Not only did we have the Pacific Double header, ANZAC Test, but also two other matches a lot of people werent aware of, South Africa/Niue and Lebanon/Malta.

Great ideas.

We just need a rep weekend in Europe now to coincide with the Australasian rep weekend but now the SL top teams are actually playing more domestic rugby I won't hold my breath on this one.

I think David Collier (RLIF) is talking about a dropdown week or two for the whole game Worldwide etc. to play international games during the season. If he could achieve that then he would be worth every penny of his salary.

Those capacities are perfectly fine. Compared to the cheap, conservative double header, on the negative side, we have:

- transport + accommodation (increase)
- gate takings (probable decrease)
- tv production costs (probably increase, but why can't Ch9 take a local feed? who cares?)
- player fatigue (slight increase)

On the positive side:

- tv ratings (increase)
- stadium rent (decrease)
- crowds (increase)
- credibility (huge increase)
- local publicity (huge increase)

Yes it would probably cost more, but those costs could be largely offset with a airline+hotel sponsorship (with exclusive fan packages sold to Australian and NZ based islanders and fans). A local TV production would cut costs, just a matter of negotiating with Ch9 and supplementing for video ref needs etc.

It's a no brainer, especially with a world cup approaching. It just takes a little bit of effort and organisation.

Agreed. We must cut the number of games here. But getting Chairmen to agree to that will be incredibly difficult as they see extra games as money spinners; didn't imagine it brings in much more but that will be their position.

It's a shame it can't be timed with the early Challenge Cup rounds so that there's some local product still on

The crowd was rocking at tge lebanese v malta match, despite the boxing, city country & anzac test.
Shows the appetite.
If you put lebanese v malta & cooks v niue as a double header at st marys, penrith or better yet belmore, they could definitely pull 5k +

I didn't mean to bump the womens game,i just forgot about it tbh...

Imagine though if the next anzac test is held in sydney with lebabnon v whoever as a curtain raiser...you'll have 10,000+ lebanese there...as good as it is nations playing whats just as important is seeing thousands of samoans, tongan, fijian, lebabnese fans screaming in the crowd...

I dunno the attendance of the samoa v tonga game the other day but it sounded like 50,000...

My favourite saying, 'they can't see the forest for the trees'!

Local Development>>>Extra Costs

The benefit of a Fiji or Samoa/Tonga hosting a game would be enormous. The atmosphere would be out of this world. Rather than a double header at the actual venue, could it be viable to have one game in say Fiji, the other in Tonga or Samoa and just have the kickoffs timed for a TV double header? There would be travel costs anyway so the only extra cost would be the TV broadcast. A local club match could be the pre-game at each venue.
