Dick Smith doesn't have anything to do with Dick Smith electronics, fyi

At first I thought this was a dumb comment but then I realised you may be bang on.
It's one of his companies...
Although hard to understand, but he wouldn't be giving millions to farmers if HE was broke

He spent 10-11 odd years running it, sold it to Woolies long ago (1980 I think), they then made it the big consumer electronics brand it was - a few years ago Woolies then on-sold it to a private equity mob who expanded it beyond its means and floated it well above its value.

Dick's name is still on it, but as I understand he's no longer involved.

His take on the downfall: http://www.9news.com.au/national/20...behind-the-downfall-of-dick-smith-electronics

You got completley schooled by Tim when you said 'it's still one of Dick Smiths companies'

And then retort with 'so yeah, means nothing for Auckland 9's'

Nice deflection...........

wtf? Don't drag me into this..

i clearly stated it was the sponsor of the tournament who went into administration, not the man himself..

Bottom line is by the time Feb 6 rolls around is we could have a different sponsor, or none at all.

Melbourne Stars had Dick Smith on front of shirt and had it replaced by Optus in time for their game back on Wednesday night. Unlikely Optus would even be able to assume the Auckland Nines sponsorship given the NRL are partnered with Telstra so unless someone else comes to the party reasonably quickly I dare say it's just plain old Auckland Nines.

Will be a nice test to see if this format can attract $$$$$$ going forward.

If it doesn't that's a failing of the organisers I would have to think. Considering how popular it has been they should be able to get sponsors surely.

Geez i hope they remove Dick Smith on the sponsorship.Get someone else.
It will be a bad look for the poor unfortunates who got dude in their stores.
We'll get the "How come Dick Smith is able to sponsor the 9s and we get zero.?""

Will be some cheap 9's jerseys if they replace the sponsorship. Dick Smith in NZ is profitable so there's always the chance a new business called Dick Smith based in NZ & 100% separate from the Australian arm could sponsor it for this year. It'd be no different to Ansett NZ & Ansett Australia or Vodafone

Would laugh if the event still goes agead with Tricky Dicky as the sponsor and the winning team is from Oz and gets their prize money in Dick Smith gift vouchers............
