Did anyone else notice - was that legal?

About mid way thru the first half, Peach had the ball stripped in a one-on-one tackle - except he was on the ground at the time.

Did anyone else notice that? Is that legal?

None of the commentators said anything at the time, and it didn't impact on the result of the game - but that ruling has me puzzled. Can anyone clarify the law for me?

Yep, I saw it and at the time I thought it should have been a penalty. After thinking about it for a while (pissed off) I wondered if maybe the ruling was that the arm carrying the ball had not contacted the ground and so the tackle was not yet effected. I guess that would mean the one on one was ok.

Hopefully better minds than mine can give us the answer!

f**king awful ruling
if peach had passed the ball at that time, he would have been penalised for passing the ball off the ground

if he cant pass, he shouldnt be able to have the ball stripped

Exactly what I was thinking.

We won the game - so no harm was done - but there were some really... odd... rulings today. About 5 or 10 minutes later we should have had the tackle count restarted but instead a handover was ruled. Oh well...

There were about 5 bad rulings today, all against the Sharks.
We were leading the penalties 5-0 with 17 minutes to go.

Plays that were wrongly refereed
A penalty instead of what should have been our first try(no advantage)
Peach Strip when he was tackled
A blatant dropped ball/knock on the 40m line by them
Galloway penalty debacle.
The Stevo back chat penalty for what wasnt originally a penalty.

It would have been except for the fact that Galloway was tackled 3 times.
tackled...he got up to play the ball.....then was pushed over using the old 3 stooges move.
He went to get up.....got tackled a gain
then he was flopped on
Then when he went to play after eventually getting up, he was pushed whilst playing it.
That was the worst ruling all day.
No 2nd worst, the no advantage penalty when we scored was the worst.

I'm with SS on that call, Reef.

Also you anti Nige slart.. 9 tackles, 0 missed, 2 line breaks, 14 hitups, 153m, 1 try.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, or meet me at the bike rack after school - its go time.

For mine the ball got two nudges, the first time Peachey managed to catch it, the 2nd, a little nudge under the arm, forced the ball out, but I can understand ref missing that. (a bit)

The worst was the no advantage from that rorters offside, why the hell not ? I though I was watching that same ref in the Bloodyslow Cup last night.

OK
I'll have to concede.
But only until I look at it again.
It looked diabolical at the game.

& Nige turned up & brought Nathan with him huh?

Pipe, mate, I got the bottom cut out of bucket & the sink full of water!

I thought peach was well and truly tackled the second time Lester had a go at it. Shoudl ahev been a strip in my opinion. When Wing was offside we missed out on a fair try by Sully.

The Peachy strip rulling....................A f**king Joke!!
The Galloway incorrect play the ball.......................A f**king Joke!!!!!!
Lets hope that Harrigan does give the Rorters away and goes on to be a Reffs advisor for the NRL

What about the second tackle on Mini to take him over the sideline....

Unless the ref called held he WASN"T!!!

so we get a flop penalty that should have been our scrum feed 5 meters out??

Poor decisions cost us some valuable for and against points :D

I agree on the Peach thing. I thought we should have got a penalty. Until our final try I thought Mander would blow us out of the game as he has so many times in the past. A great win.

Another one for Mander

Sharks kick through, Morley plays at the ball by sticking his big flipper out, Hilder regathers. No 6 again, Cross break from the ensuing set of 6 leads to a try to Old Man Ricko

Got the rorters back in the game with that one.

The worst bit about that was that he didnt indicate whether or not it was six again
he should have screamed it out at the top of his voice

That 'played at the ball' rule is a shocker, how is the ref meant to know what the defending player is thinking?
It might seem radical but perhaps we have to think about going down the path of soccer and basketball - where it doesnt matter if a player has played at the ball or not. It would be good for consistency, if nothing else.
