Did anyone else think that tonight was one of, if not the worst Origin games? I don't know if it was too many schooners or what, but I really can't think of a worse Origin game that I've seen..

Agreed. So did the 10 blokes I watched it with. What did you expect from a Ricky Stuart coached side? Remember his Sharks? The most boring team to watch since Ryans Bulldogs of the early 80's.

Yes.

And I thought it was because the game was slow. And the game was slow because the refereeing was crap.

As a NSW fan, I felt like the Blues were allowed to lay all over the Maroons FOREVER in the tackles - can't believe Qld only got 2 penalties out of it....

The refs let the game get sooo slow, and so it developed into a boring 'sludge fest' arm wrestle.

Excluding the last try, I thought Queensland were well below par and NSW were just being NSW.

Not an ideal game to be beaming all around the world.

Yes, its been like that for a few years, refs are afraid to give penalties and the teams know it

+1 case in point NSW breaking from the scrum wayyyyy early. After that everyone did it.

In Rugby League you have to blow a penalty or two early, to stop the slowing down the play the ball. Its how its always been done.

That said - the people i watched the game with said it was one of the better origins. Mainly due to the score and the QLD comeback i think.

f**k every year someone makes a thread like this, I thought the game was tough and tight, just like most Origin games.

QLD played below par at times because NSW lifted

In the office today many a QLDer is saying about how it's one of the best games they've watched.

It's because the people saying it are women or homo's, neither of which have ANY clue about football and only watch it for the cute boys.

There wasn't really that much skills on show. Qld weren't as slick as usual (wait for inglis/hodges) and individually there wasn't really much brilliance from either side.

Still, it was pretty tense for the 80 mins and the fact I hate ennis so much made it a pretty enjoyable last 10.

I thought the quality of the game was poor. At times it even felt like Queensland were just toying with NSW.

Ive definately watched more forgettable games than last nights, and im not just talking about games QLD have lost. I didnt think last nights game was boring, which for me is the worst kind of game. It didnt have the slick skills and polish that a QLD side has normally had in the last few years but i was enough to keep me entertained throughout the 80mins so for me it was a bit of a middle of the road kind of game.

Can't agree there. I thought QLD were always dangerous, but NSW actually turned up for each other in defence this year.

Overall though, not many big hits and was a pretty average game to watch.

That's only because almost every maroons player gets tackled then holds the NSW tackler down on top to milk a penalty. Smith and Myles are the worst, they do it every time.

The refs need some balls. They come from the Bill Harrigan school of 'No Penalties = Good Game', which results in very slow rucks and lots of grubby stuff from both teams

As was pointed out, some clown makes this thread every year.

Queensland were well below what they are capable of, but NSW were about as good as they'll ever be. You should just be happy that your heartless state got close for once.

People who make these threads must not of seen a lot of Origins or have piss poor memories.

Last night was one of the best Origin games for awhile. Qld were very slick but lacked the finish while NSW actually put in.

Sure it lacked 'Origin' moments but I thought it was a good contest.

Origin has lost it as a concept and fails miserably to live up to the hype. That hype was built in the 80's when big hits and brawls were common place.

Now the game is faster and the player lines are such they don't often get exposed to the big hit. They run in search of a quick play the ball. Hits are now about winning the tackle, rather than sitting a guy on his ar$e.

The days that the best players in the NRL are playing in Origin are gone as well. At least "half" of the best players in the NRL now play for the Kiwis. So its not the best two representative sides any more in origin. That lowers origin down so it is no longer "the ultimate".
