Wise is big and strong when he runs on the wing, his problem is defending but hopefully that'll improve.

defence is the key word for 2004. We let in way too many points in 2003 and if you cant defend then you have no place in this eels side!

Parramatta had a real problem last season with the lack of strong kick returners. Grothe and Wise are hard runners and will defeinately help get the team on the front foot early in the tackle count.

You obviously did not watch many games last year!
Ash Graham returned the ball with venum.
So much so he was asked to tone it down before he ended up in a wheelchair!!!

Ash definitely is a great ball returner. Hodgson put his heart into it (for a while at least) however was a bit small. Graham has a huge future ahead of him especially if he, Grothe and Burt can develop a good combination.

Did i point out Graham?

Plus Wise and Grothe are wingers, Graham was playing fullback during this season.

Wing or fullback - doesn't make much difference as at sometime they will be returning the ball from kicks........

I agree Pazza.

Ash went ok, and will keep improving, but in terms of wingers, Moodie was well below his best, and no one else managed to grab the other wing spot and really make it there's. So a couple of strong wingers who can hopefully work well out of dummy half also, will help imensly.

No doubt!

But Graham was one of three. The performances of Moodie and Petersen werent as impressive. None the less, Graham is no Utai, Minichello, Meli or Lockyer. I just feel that Wise and Grothe can add alot to our ability to create go forward much like Sailor and Tuqiri during their broncos days (no as good but).

Ash may not be a Utai, Count Drac, or Lockyer, but that doesn't mean that he wont be.

His improvement and matirity over the past few years has been enormous. He has bulked up alot, so I like him better than Hogo at fullback.

I am a huge fan of Ash Graham, and IMO he could be anything.

I should have said that in my post but i just couldn't be bothered. Ash is a good young kid and my original post was never ment to knock him but i just feel that out ability to return the footy lacked a certain sting that some new guys will be able to correct.

Didn't mean to knock you Pazza!
Just thought Ash did not get the support he deserved from his efforts last year. Lets hope he returns from injury quickly to show more of his ability in 2004.
Let's remember he is still very young and was given a massive task because some little stick creature simply didn't want to be there.

I can bag him out now he is no longer an eel cant I????

IMO Petersen was OK and did know where the tryline was but he is so terribly suss under the high ball.

Like all I cannot wait to see Grothe destroying oppositions again!!

looking through the other pics, Hopkins appears to have longer hair than the guy in this pic. having said that, i can't give an alternative so it probably is Hopo
