Hagan has the best career coaching record of a coach that has coached at the Eels since 1989.
Michael Hagan also has the 2nd best winning record at the Eels (excluding caretaker coaches) by anyone since 1989.

I knew that we were living in our best times at the time.

Discuss.

He certainly took over a strong squad. But he wasn't the only coach to inherit a club built by Brian Smith.

He also found himself in charge of a strong roster at Newcastle.

Did you know Brian Smith (50.7%) had a lower coaching career winning record than Michael Hagan?

Did you know that Michael Hagan is in the top 10 coaches (winning percent) of all time at Parramatta?

Did you know that the Eels didn't have a good winning percent even with Hayne at the peak of his career?

Do you know why that didn't give other coaches a better winning record?

As a rebuilding specialist I'm not surprised. He generally took over squads that had been consistent poor performers. Nobody could turn that around quickly. Even Hagan took a few years at Newcastle and Parra to turn strong squads into shit ones.

Did you know that Hagan's 2001 Knights team won a premiership against a 2001 Eels team that was meant to be unbeatable? Tactically outplayed in every facet of that game?

Did you know that if the coach gets blamed for bad performances, they should also be acknowledged for good ones too? Or if the coach does not matter, do you know why so many coaches go through the grinder?

Tactically outplayed? That Knights team was full of current rep players. The Eels team overachieved all year due to Smith's tactics but on the day the superior class of the Knights players won out. It wasn't better tactics, it was better playing talent.

Did you know I don't deal with assumptions, I deal with cold, hard data? Did you know Hagan has the best career coaching record of a coach that has coached at the Eels since 1989? Did you know that has nothing to do with squad strength and everything to do with how he was the best coach the Eels have had since 1989?

So what is there to discuss then? If you simply state a statistical reality, and limit the discussion to whether that is true, there's no response required.

Here's another fact (well, maybe it's true). Michael Moseley has a better win/loss record as Parramatta's hooker than any regular hooker since Steve Edge.

You worked out your first paragraph in the second paragraph.

Excluding Jason Taylor's stint as caretaker (and factoring in he has a career coaching win percentage of 43%), Did you know Michael Hagan is the 9th most successful coach at the Eels of all time and the 2nd most successful coach at the Eels since the 80's? For those at home counting: that's almost three decades!

I know it was his decision to retire (who could blame him if he saw what was coming) but he came 5th in 2007 (4th if you exclude the cheating storm) and was only two wins out of the eight in 2008. If we could only turn back time and realise was the real problem was. Yet somehow the Eels scraping into the finals at eighth in 2006 and losing in week one is "inheriting a good squad"! Ridiculous!
