Die Hard Tragic Defined....

As I get myself set and ready to enter my 42nd year of a new competition as a StGeorge fan I started to wonder if I fit the "tragic" or "die-hard" fan definition.

What can others share to determine if I am mad and to work out just what makes a fan a "tragic".

Here are some of my core actions over the past 42 years:

1. I think I can honestly say that my mind thinks about the team on some level at least once every day, usually a lot more.

2. When we lose I am mad at the whole family, especially a Sunday afternoon loss. I set a self imposed media ban for at least 24 hours (in old days it was harder - I would need to keep away from newspapers and the tv sport part of the news etc). When we win I want to have a few extra beers and I will stay up late and replay the games (taped on my VHS in old days when we were MOTD with Rex mossop) and i would buy all the papers and review all the stories (now all this is on fox and on-line of course).

3. I have been to every grand final since 1975.

4. I am still sad OConnor signed with Manly and I'm still happy we signed sludge from Cronulla. Meaning I remember every player and coach who signed and left like it was yesterday.

Am I mad? Help wanted.

No help needed mate, it's only been 42 years, get's easier on the family in a few more years. Perfectly sane and rational behaviour for a tragic.

Sheridan , don't you go worrying your little head - as I can assure you , that you are not mad .

Mad ? Mad is a pig farmer who names his hogs after his favourite players . Unlike yourself , when we lose , I do not go off at the family ( lord forbid , they are mad enough already ) I go and take it out on the hogs , with my favourite pair of steel-capped boots.

Between you and I , there is one poor sod that really collects it , can you guess his name? I will give you a hint , he is not actually a player , but he sure as hell is responsible for the way the team plays !

Now that is what you call Mad .
Yourself , you merely have red and white blood , that tends to heat-up whenever you hear the name St.George Illawarra Dragons , a wonderful thing to have pumping through your veins .

Some may think your mad but i think your a loyal and dedicated saints fan.
In you are a legend along with every other saints supporter.
The only cazy, insane and completely bonkers nrl fan are the fans of.
Souths, wests, manly, Parramatta, roosters, penrith , cowboys, broncos, titans, melbourne, knights, warriors, Canberra, .
And expecially the bullgrubs and sharks.
Because how can you follow those teams when the greatest team ever is playing .
The might Dragons.

Who ? Mary , never heard of him !
Good ole Nathan Blacklock , he certainly was a bit of an acrobat , was he not .
A Rock bluudy Weiler , and a Terrior , how do the two get along ?
I can understand why you named him after Mick Weyman , a great player for the Dragons . One forward who knew only one way to play - straight and hard , a real workhorse for our team .
It was a sad day when he left the club . Mate I must run , I shall catch up with you later Sammy .

Actually great post Sheridan Stand.

I literally wonder around looking lost for a few hours after most losses and can't get to sleep that night as still thinking about the game.

Usually I'm a bit better the next day until one of my smartass mates takes the piss out of me for being a Dragon and then the cycle starts again.

Today I ran into a Souths Supporter and he said that after watching the Charity Shield game that he thought Souths were sh*t ...... Then he mentioned us , and he thinks we are in for a long season as our attack was terrible . I really felt like putting one right on his nose for belittling my Dragons . Instead I walked away thinking I should have clipped him , but he was right .....

Well done for not clipping him, mate.

He's entitled to his view, just like we are.
Nothing wrong with fans being passionate, in fact there's nothing better.

We just need to hope we prove him wrong and finish higher up the ladder than him.
Enjoy the season, mate.

A special 'mention in dispatches' to 'Sheridan stand' for a great post.
Yes sir, you are mad so enjoy the luxury.

Still following them despite Young Snr, Farrah, Brown, Price, Mc Gregor and Co.
Still following them despite the club shitting on some great players within our ranks. (I am still really sore about a few we pushed out especially Stoney and Morris twins especially B Moz).
Still following them despite all the dumb signings we have made.
Still following them despite the RGRV that moved away from traditional home games.
Still following them despite a Mc Gregor press conference.
Still following them despite the lack of any vision for the future and the shit situation we have been in for so long.
