That is the only way i can describe our goal line defence. 5 tries tonight, and 3 last week against the Bronco's. We MUST improve this part of our game, otherwise we will suffer more embarrassing losses this season.

The attack was quite good though, and should probably improve in the next month or so as well.

To all those bagging Micky V all week, pleased to see him have a terrific game tonight. Lets see him string a few top shelf games together.

We did what was required to win. Newcastle arn't a crap team, so grant that as well and Buderus was punishing us for the full 80. Sure we're not going to win the comp unless we get stronger defence but the most important thing is we won tonight. We can work on the defence this week at training.

1. Buderus' second try (I think) - he ran BEHIND number 4, who blocked Stapleton. Thus Stapleton (who was in the position to makethe tackle) could not make the tackle on Buderus and he scored.

2. We have always been ordinary when play starts again after stoppage (I refer to Woolnough where 4 players tried to tackle him). We lose concentration.

3. Buderus' first try - he went UNDER Caylo; hard to combat it. And what do we do? Move Vaealiki closer to the marker to fill the gap and leave ourselves expose out wide?

IMHO, the outstanding Eels were Prince, Langi, Vaealiki, Wagon, Dykes, Morris, Vella, Hindy, Caylo and Stapleton. Everyone else had a good game.

The scoreline should have been 38-6 as one of the Newcastle trys which was the that excellent pass by Gidley was deserved but the other crap that we let in was disgraceful, our defence is great when we are not on our line and when we do get on our line more desperation must be shown.

Yeah the goalline defense is definitely shocking - I think they just get tired and forget to take just a little step forward to make it harder for someone to push over from dummy half.

But Buderus isn't the Australian hooker for nothing - he is a strong player who can probably do that against alot of teams - maybe once, twice was a bit much to take. #-o

As for Wooly just walking through 4 players - that was appauling....minds on the game fellas!

yeah, the goalline defence does have to be improved.

but that should be able to be something that can be worked on. I'm hoping that 80% of next weeks training is goaline and marker defence

The big positive is that you aren't going to lose many games if you score 38 points so at least we are winning. At the start of the season I thought if we could get 2 of our 4 games the draw then gets decidely easier. Well maybe we can get 3 out of 4 because the raiders aren't exactly playing that well either.

2 form 4 would be ok but if they can get 3 from 4 then they have a easyish run into the 1st bye with Souths, Manly, Sharks and Cowboys to be played before the round 9 bye.

I actually thought that Buderus last try should have been a penalty to Parra as he definately used the person who played the ball as a sheperd and pushed his way over next to this player. IMO the officials really have to clamp down on this as Buderus has been doing this for years.
